October 14, 2015

Mr. Sanders was cheered at a fancy campaign fund-raiser at the Hollywood home of Syd Leibovitch, a high-end real estate agent, and his wife, Linda, on Wednesday night.

Tickets for the event sold for a minimum of $250. Those who spent the maximum, $2,700, or who raised $10,000, were invited to a “pre-event reception,” according to the invitation.

The 14 co-hosts included Cindy Asner, the former wife of the actor Ed Asner, the actress Mimi Kennedy, and Benjamin W. Decker, whose website notes that he was once called the “legendary Hollywood P.R. maven” by Forbes magazine, and used to produce “celebrity-driven red-carpet movie premieres.”
...........................................
It was the ninth such event of his campaign, his aides said, according to the pool report.
................................

As Mr. Sanders began speaking to the guests, he joked that the Leibovitch house was a “proletariat” home, and told them, “The truth is there are many people in this country who have money but also believe in social justice.”

If we saw a photo of him shopping at a high end store we could gripe that he's out of touch with our concerns and how we have to live. I don't think he was engaging in poverty porn. I have tried at times and it's almost impossible. And then I found out that half the stuff that says "made in the USA" is either made in sweatshops in LA or by prisoners making $2 per hour or less.

There are some "fair trade" clothing companies, but they mostly sell t-shirts and casual wear, and they never make petites. Very hard for me to find work clothes from fair trade sources, though if anyone has any suggestions on that I'd love to hear them.

For some reason, the clothing industry is one of the hardest to buy ethically in.

maybe it is not thus, but it sure as hell looks like it. Why? Because the most valuable, precious, and limited resource a Senator and presidential candidate has is TIME. And shopping at Ross is a bad allocation of one's hyper-limited time due to the variability and unreliability of their stock. Thus one must conclude this is merely virtue signaling. Utterly transparent, manipulative virtue signaling.

One must ask what he thinks of voters' intelligence that he thinks such a gambit will be helpful.

They drove a mercury. Their house was a nice 4 bedroom colonial in a upper middle class neighborhood. It was very nice, but nothing more then a successful doctor or lawyer would have. Not all rich people feel the need to live in huge mansions and drive rolls-royces (neither of which Bernie could afford).

In case you're wondering how I knew them, they belonged to my synagogue. Everyone knew how rich they were, but never mentioned it to them because we knew they would be embarrassed. They were lovely people.

Wealthy people who are self-made often are careful with what they spend because they remember what it was like to not be financially secure.

But actually, it's easy for me to imagine several of the candidates buying clothes there. Lots of people with money, like Bernie, try to save it when they can.

Because when you’re worth millions you don’t need to shop there. And as for me, when I’m strolling into Walmart I’m not usually followed by a camera crew. Pete Buttigieg lives in a home worth maybe $250,000. He and Chasten ( no income anymore) have over $100,000 in student debt. THAT’S middle class!

... I recall George Bush doing something like this at a market. Hillary did a subway. I'm sure others have done it, though I can't recall the specifics. It's a way the candidates "relate" to voters. The pictures are taken and shared for that purpose - to show voters candidates are like "ordinary" Americans. Image thing... sometimes it's not advised... imagine Crooked Donald and Meliana going to Ross!

for many years. I couldn't afford to shop at department stores then, now I refuse to pay designer prices.

I've already cast my vote for Biden here in CA (mail-in), but Bernie shopping at Ross gave me a smile because I could relate.

other candidates shopping there. Stores like Ross, 2nd hand, and thrift stores were my go to stores when the kids were little and it seemed they out grew their new clothes in the time we drove home. Or those special occasion clothes they would only wear once or twice.

I have brought Lennox, butterfly Meadow at less than 1/2 the price as a gift for my MIL. Le Crusette baking dishes and so on. Right now I have a large glass bowl on my coffee table to hold remotes in. The colors compliment and match the room décor perfectly. I paid 7.99 for it so if it gets nicked or broken no big loss. I mean. I guess I could go to Macy's of Neiman Marcus and spend 10X more on stuff so some people wouldn't look down on me. But those aren't the type of people who wouldn't want to be friends with me to begin with.

This constant backhanded harping on anybody who doesn't think and act EXACTLY like Bernie and Jane Sanders is not a winning strategy. We have a tyrant in the White House. I don't care where people shop. I'm supporting candidates who can beat Trump.

Stay focused. Resentment and petty sniping is not a winning look. It comes across as weak.
