Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIt's nice to see so many people undecided.
We have such a great field of candidates, it truly is hard to make a choice at this stage.

Quite honestly I suspect you'll see more people deciding by virtue of who turns them off than who attracts them.

(40,203 posts)I like Amy Klobuchar a lot, almost as much as Kamala Harris. This is so even though they are very different.

(4,604 posts)and we have great choices. There's only 2 I'm meh about, but will absolutely vote for them if they get the nod (though I highly doubt they'll get that far...)
I adore Elizabeth Warren, but don't know if she can beat the shitgibbon. Kamala is awesome. Still waiting on Biden's decision. Still need to research Klobuchar, not familiar with her, but what I have read I've liked. I need to do more research, in general- it's a lot of candidates to get to know.
Would LOVE to elect our first woman President, but it's not a deal breaker. Whoever can amass the votes needed to utterly destroy the shitgibbon is my ultimate preference.
Edited to add last paragraph, and then again for clarity in 2nd paragraph

(34,104 posts)but not sure this time. I sent a donation because I want him out there expressing his views because I think they are important. I can think of 4 now that I would have no problem voting for, would be excited about, the rest not as much but certainly not a cringe worthy one out there. A strong field and will make for an exciting time.

(10,302 posts)I have also chosen "undecided" but yeah I lean towards Bernie Sanders somewhat. However it is 2019 and we got a loooong way to November 2020. If Beto O'Rourke tosses his name in, if Joe Biden declares, if Elizabeth Warren does well.... Too many choices. Ultimately it is who can help America "Dump the Trump" and who is going to be most effective at doing so.

(911 posts)I picked the candidate I would vote for today, because I've always really liked her and what she stands for, but I am open to many of the others and like them as well - I don't know them as well, though.

(17,595 posts)But I had to be honest: if the primary were today, and I had to pick one of the candidates listed here, I would pick one, and it would be Brown. As this seems to have a polling effect I felt I better make a choice. (A Rush song comes to mind ...)
I absolutely will support the Democratic nominee, whoever it is. (even if that turns out to be someone heretofore an Independent)
So changed my avatar to hopefully get that point across.
On edit: avatar changed to "Unnamed Democrat". I didn't realize when first making this post that avatars don't show in this forum.

(1,896 posts)There are quite a few I'd smile while voting for, a couple I'd shrug and vote for, and a couple I'd vote for with misgivings. But we've got a lot of Democrats worth voting for at this point.
I do worry the crowded field might split the vote enough that somebody could sneak in without, for example, providing his tax returns.

(63,645 posts)When you see the discussions with so many people taking sides it's easy to think that everyone on DU has already picked a candidate. I think it provides useful perspective to see that nearly half of DUers do not support a particular candidate yet.

(806 posts)but I can easily say that if you put a gun to my head and forced me to make a choice right now, it would be Biden - him and Sanders are the only candidates I feel you can already make a really informed judgment about. Biden's age DOES give me pause though - it's very possible that a younger candidate might emerge in the primaries that will cause me to switch my support - but today, I don't know enough - I'm open to Brown and Klobuchar, for example, but I don't know yet if they - in terms of political skill - are in the league of presidential contender (running for president is a whole different league than running for US Senate).

(7,524 posts)Remember there's a VP choice also and an Attorney General position many candidates would also be appropriate for and effective in.
Can we have Obama as Secretary of State? Yes, I know he'd get skipped in Presidential succession, but he's our best face for foreign affairs and has experience in international politics.

If I want to say whom I support, I will only say it if/when it is appropriate.

(17,982 posts)Kidding about an unfunny situation, but trust me many who voted for the best of 2 evils will think long and hard the next time. I think they did in the last election.
Wonder how many Republican Senators will retire in 2020. Like the House did last year?

I'm breathless just thinking about it. The govt could effect real change, and reaffirm our commitment to our allies, make headway against climate change and environmental damage, etc
We have to win.
