BY CHRIS MILLS RODRIGO - 03/31/19 10:36 AM EDT
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Sunday that she has no reason not to believe Lucy Flores, the woman who has accused Joe Biden of kissing her head without consent in 2014.
I have no reason not to believe her, Klobuchar, who is running for president in 2020, said on ABC's "This Week."
I think we know from campaigns and politics that people raise issues and they have to address them, and thats what he will have to do with the voters if he gets into the race," she said of Biden, who is likely to soon put in his bid for the 2020 nomination.

(8,208 posts)either to Biden or herself, and preferably both.
She successfully avoided the trap the first time he asked the question, but when he asked it again, including a statement that Biden said the default should be believing the accuser, I don't know how she could have answered without generating an inflammatory and damaging headline.

(1,400 posts)And you are so right about her avoiding the traps he laid. Jonathan Karl is like that with all Dem interviews, pushing, demanding, subtly insulting and insinuating. See how very hard they try to get our candidates to turn on each other. Compare this to his velvet glove treatment of Mulvaney, just before the Klobuchar interview.
Give the ABC interview a minute to load:

I like Amy a lot.
She is very quick on her feet, and has what seem to me at first look to be a number of well thought-out, progressive policy positions. She didn't attack or diminish ANY Dem candidates including Biden. People should listen to her carefully and don't let those with an agenda dictate what you see and hear.
We CANNOT survive if we allow this field of candidates to turn on each other, or if we turn on ourselves. Policy, people!
I love AOC. And Elizabeth Warren. And Stacey Abrams. And Mayor Pete. And many of the other "stars". Shine, I still love Bernie. But Klubuchar strikes me as having all sorts of potential for winning - Midwestern, pro-labor, pro-farmer, pro-gressive . . .
And darn it, she just LOOKS (and acts) presidential.

(8,208 posts)Eyes on the prize: folks on DU may have policy differences which are fine to debate, but none of us should be smearing our Democratic candidates with the results of gotcha journalism set-ups, or trying to harden public opinion against our candidates in a way that will be difficult to undo should she or he become our nominee.
By the way, I am enthusiastic about everyone on your list, and Inslee too, whom I had as my DU primary choice until recently.

(49,041 posts)for Bernie Sanders, she would have seen some reasons not to believe her. Or at least not believe Flores's interpretation of what happened.
I'm disappointed in her as well as in Warren and Castro and Sanders.
I don't recall Biden piling on when the media was focusing on stories about how Klobuchar treats her staff, how Warren claimed Native-American ancestry on an application, and how there was misogynistic behavior in the Sanders campaign.

(8,208 posts)She tried hard not to get dragged into this. In fact, if she had said she didn't believe Flores, she still would have been tossing Biden under the bus, because the interviewer prodded her to answer by quoting Biden as saying at some point that the default should be to believe the accuser, and did she disagree?
I like Biden; I like Klobuchar. It's the interviewer who is at fault here. Again, the media is trying to stir up fake controversy because stories like this-rather than policy stories-poke people's emotions and manipulate them into falsely thinking our candidates or Democratic figures have it in for each other. They're doing it with Buttigieg and Clinton as well as with Biden and Klobuchar.
Please let's not fall for this!
