Here I go, this may be the end of me, but Joe Rogan is not an enemy.

Last edited Fri Jan 24, 2020, 10:32 PM - Edit history (3)

He has made racist comments.

He has made trans-phobic comments as many other stand-ups have, which is NO excuse.

But he is not the enemy, in fact he is very vocally ANTI the actual enemies Rump and Pence.

Bernie may end up the nominee, I doubt it but he may and if that happened we would have to not only vote for him but if Joe brought in some unsavory folks to vote for Bernie, that would be GOOD because the election is about

LIFE

AND

DEATH...

Even though I am known here to REALLY not like Bernie, which is no secret, you will think he was my guy ALL ALONG if he becomes the nominee.

And even though Rogan has punched down with racism and homophobic comments, he is NOT the enemy at least NOT NOW.

Take back the WH and House and Senate, then worry about Rogan and people like him, but for now they are on our side and for now that is EVERYTHING...We better understand that...it is fucking serious like a heart attack actually.

And no, I am neither a POC of LGBTQ, so I understand I cant and wont speak for them, that is NOT what this is. This is

a BINARY time...you are either on our side or on the side of FASCISM AND DEATH.

I am not the enemy either.
ROGAN's endorsement ONLY matters IF Bernie is the nominee...which is the BASIS of my post.

ps

Oh, and the guy who gave Liz shit about tuition free college, FUCK HIM too!

edit

I spend months LAMBASTING Bernie supporters for very obviously putting CONDITIONS on their vote here and elsewhere. All I am doing here is saying the same thing if Bernie happens to be the candidate, we have to put NO conditions on that and accept ALL the help we can get...because, again, the alternative is maybe DEATH.

Conversely I sure hope some BS voters dont condition their vote on the basis of who endorses a candidate other than him...same thing, same EXACT thing...

If a nevertrumper con endorses anyone other than Bernie, for example, because he or she is anti trump; we can almost guarantee such a person has an UGLY history of either being anti minority or wanting to destroy SS and Medicare or both, but if they want to give us MORE votes by endorsing one of ours...OF COURSE we accept it.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

We don't get to excuse racism and misogyny etc.. just because they support someone associated with our side.

This just smells of white hetero privilege to see so many people looking the other way over this - and there's plenty all over the internet doing it. We may as well take an endorsement from David Duke too..

That doesn't mean we forget where they're coming from, doesn't mean we roll out the red carpet for them, and DAMN sure doesn't mean they get a seat at the table.

And my gut sez when Sanders fails to win the nomination, these less-than-savory characters that are singing Sanders' praises now will be out working against us.

On DU is going to vote for the nominee.

You should take your concerns to Bernie twitter and Rogan, and tell them to vote for the nominee when it isn’t Bernie.

and we will vote for any nominee...but this guy is dividing us not helping us get more voters...there is a twitter war raging at the moment...and consider how POC feel about our embrace of this guy or Trans people...he is vicious. He won't help us. I had hoped Sanders wouldn't run and we would be spared the exhausting daily drama...but that didn't happen...we can win if we stick together and we don't need the Rogans of the world to do it. We can't accept this guy it is disrespectful to our AA Democratic voters. They are voters we can count on year after year.

I am kind of appalled at your post. His vile rant about women that I will not post...calling for women to be shot in the "C". The most vile thing I have ever read in my life. I will vote for him, BS, as a last resort in the general and then seek therapy. Joe Rogan IS the enemy of all I hold dear.

I'm going to say this. So its come to the point where so many white people are for that dirt fucker we need "sort of racist" white people??? Im really tired of this line of thought. Outside of voter suppression you wonder why so many of us have given up on the system?

Your sentiments here play a part. The fact Bloomberg with his stop and frisk policies is somehow surging. Fact is when it comes down to it y'all need us but not so much as you want your contemporaries. I'll still vote for who I need to when I need to, but I'm becoming less than estatic about it.

Fri Jan 24, 2020, 07:36 PM

On this one issue alone (racism) we have to be ideologically pure. Mainline Dems pushed racists out of the party beginning in 1948 and we should never look back.

The Rogans of this world need to apologize to US before we allow them back in the party. We owe them NOTHING. By minimizing the effect of Rogan’s racist comments we are betraying our AA and Hispanic brothers and sisters. No amount of hipster comedy is going to make those racist comments acceptable.

Rogan likes Bernie? Bernie needs to use the power of his popularity to push the racists out of his party or even better, make them see the error of their ways.

If I start making racists comments, feel free to throw my ass to the curb as well. It is conduct unbecoming any liberal and especially, any Democrat.

Racism is a deal breaker. Now and forever.

Targeting voters of all stripes is fine (assuming the message fits in with liberal/progressive/Democratic principles, of course).

Promoting a racist homophobe simply because he endorsed one's candidacy is not.

I think that's the difference here. I agree with you that we're going to need all the help we can get, but that doesn't mean that we should celebrate someone like Joe Rogan on a candidate's website.

I also agree with those who have pointed out the ludicrous amount of hypocrisy here. Sanders surrogate AOC says the tent is already too large and that Biden, of all people, doesn't belong in the tent...but Joe Rogan does?

Everyone on DU will vote for the nominee. We are not your enemy and you don’t to tell others you disagree with to FU.

You should spend time on Bernie twitter and calling in to Rogan show. It’s them who needs the unity speech. Cause everyone here supports the dem nominee.

They don’t.

When videos of Rogan just openly spouting the n-word w/ a hard r start making the rounds, I don't want to see anyone on the left complaining about their inability to reach people of color that aren't already on your team.

.because, again, the alternative is maybe DEATH.

People are already dying. People are already dead. When you put all your chips on one presidential election, you end up having to justify the endorsement of a Democrat by a racist, misogynist bigot. Is it worth it? For me, no.

An enemy's enemy is not always your friend.

There are some principles that are higher than just winning an election and those must never be compromised.

Rogan's existence is antithetical to the core values we as Democrats espouse. What next? A David Duke endorsement of Bernie?
