Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumNBC: Bernie Sanders can't be allowed to poison another Democratic primary with personal attacks
If it is any consolation, Joe Biden is just the latest Democratic candidate that has been victimized by Bernie's scorched earth, negative attacks. As the article below notes, remember right at the outset of the primaries, Bernie's campaign falsely attacked Beto O'Rourke as being in the pocket of big oil. Bernie is not winning by the power of his ideas. He is winning by his lack of decency and willingness to go negative against his opponents regardless of the consequence.
https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/bernie-sanders-fans-can-t-be-allowed-poison-another-democratic-ncna953976
The reason for these pre-emptive attacks (which has the markings of a coordinated effort) in a spate of news and opinion articles in a variety of publications, is obvious enough: After losing the Texas Senate race to incumbent Ted Cruz, O'Rourke nonetheless has shot to the top in Democratic primary polls since Election Day, overshadowing both Sanders and another left-wing favorite, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
* * *
Berniecrats seem determined to dust off the same destructive playbook this time around, even though the attacks against O'Rourke are flimsy and misleading. O'Rourke unseated a conservative Democrat in a primary and never tacked right in an election in deep red Texas. He has run in favor of federal legislation legalizing marijuana and the impeachment of President Trump, and although he fails their litmus test on free college tuition, their claims that his support is weak for Medicare-for-all don't match his record: As a Senate candidate, he said he would vote for it.
Bernie supporters have made questionable claims about contributions to O'Rourke from the oil and gas industry, as well as his support for certain Republican-sponsored House bills but neglect to mention that the oil and gas money came mostly from low-level industry employees (hundreds of thousands of Texans are employed by the industry), and that O'Rourke broke ranks with his party less than the average Democrat.

(787 posts)Your thousands of posts daily about Bernie are not attacks because it is important that only Bernie and people who support Bernie attack others. You and some others post daily such non-attacking posts about Bernie daily accusing others of one sided attack posts. You have some strange definitions of what constitutes an attack. It seems to mostly revolve around who is the target of the post.

[C]orporate and billionaire-owned media often tilts coverage against candidates who push a working-class agenda an agenda that threatens the political power of corporations and billionaires, he continued, arguing that such biases have harmed his boss presidential campaign.
The authors boss is, perhaps surprisingly, Democrat candidate Bernie Sanders, and not the notoriously anti-media Donald Trump
In fact, the Vermont senators campaign has repeatedly questioned the alleged biases of the mainstream media in recent days, leading some to compare Sanders to the president he hopes to defeat.

The media treats, or at least during the primaries treated, Trump much more favorably than they treat Sanders. They gave him unlimited airtime with no criticism or fact checking at all.
Trump attacks the media as a fascist, to bully them into submission. To keep them on the path of no resistance.
Bernie merely points out the media bias against even putting him on the air. With him, the media is on the path of most resistance.
There is no similarity whatsoever.

(1,249 posts)In the primaries that is. But I certainly would if Bernie were out. And if he isn't, I hope that Warren will be the nominee.
I still think Biden and the others are Hilary 2.0. Of course I'd vote for any Democrat. Just not sure enough of the right people will.
And the media bias against coverage extends to Warren too. Compared to Trump, it extends to all Democrats. What's that about?

(32,640 posts)In fact, when WAPO reported on the labor dispute in his campaign, he not only lashed out at WAPO for doing their job in reporting on labor rights issues, he lashed out at the union members for exercising their right, protected by the NLRB, to talk to the press, or talking on social media, about labor negotiations, as doing something "improper" and "unacceptable."

(17,378 posts)Bernie takes negativity to whole new level. Press releases announcing that opponents are corrupt? Denying statements that he said a woman can't win that were witnessed by more than just the speakers involved? Bernie has been relentlessly negative not only toward other candidates, but toward the Democratic party in general as his comments to the New York Times made clear when portrayed a false equivalency between the Democratic and Republican party. It is just slash and burn.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/13/politics/bernie-sanders-elizabeth-warren-meeting/index.html
The two agreed that if they ultimately faced each other as presidential candidates, they should remain civil and avoid attacking one another, so as not to hurt the progressive movement. They also discussed how to best take on President Donald Trump, and Warren laid out two main reasons she believed she would be a strong candidate: She could make a robust argument about the economy and earn broad support from female voters.
Sanders responded that he did not believe a woman could win.
The description of that meeting is based on the accounts of four people: two people Warren spoke with directly soon after the encounter, and two people familiar with the meeting.

Its no secret who I supported. I was one of the most visible and vocal advocates of Secretary Hillary Clinton. Many others backed you, Senator Sanders, with contagious zeal. At times during the Democratic primary, I was criticized for being too aggressive in my support for Secretary Clinton and rightly so. Looking back, I recognize that there were a few moments when my drive to put Hillary in the White House led me to take too stiff a jab. I own up to that, I regret it, and I apologize to you and your supporters for it.
