(787 posts)You post an article from 2015 after he had both declared as a candidate and had his popularity take off. I assume that Susan Russ supported Hillary and this is a bash.
Find someone before the 2016 campaign started that states that he has a generally bad reputation. It was a surprise to everyone that he became a national figure but in democratic circles he was pretty well liked by everyone before that INCLUDING HILLARY. They worked together on her push for health care in Bill's administration.
I assume that just because I could post numerous articles stating that some person with a public voice states that Hillary is not trustworthy and a liar you would not consider the case closed on Hillary. Give Bernie the same skepticism and find someone who said something universal before the campaign. You really wont be able to because he was actually viewed pretty favorably although not one who had a lot of political power.

As I said, my wife does not like my mother and has not for years. That does not mean anything about either of them on a global level. It just means they don't get along; it does not prove anything about them as people generally.
You posted an article saying Bernie conflicted with Barny on passing an amendment and use it to claim that noone likes working with him. Yes, it is clear that at least at that time Bernie and Barney conflicted. I will note that this article was from Bernie's first six months in congress and says nothing about his long term relationship with other congress members and there is absolute proof that it is not the case that people did not work with him.
Sanders was a founding member and leader of the Progressive Caucus so obviously and definitively people some congress people liked and worked with him. It had and has many members. The democratic party authorities have accepted his caucus as well. You find 2 people with their own baggage and motives one of which from his first six months in office and the other during a contentious political campaign where press assets were pressed to actively try to get Bernie out of the race and assert as proven something about him that is clearly at odds with his history.
Btw with equally fast work, I found the article about Hillary working with Bernie which again is not proof that everyone loves him but does prove that everyone does not dislike him. All politicians have people who have a bone to pick with them. You should know that about politicians you support as well.
You probably know it anyhow but here is one of many articles of Hillary thanking Bernie for his work on her attempts to pass Health Care in Bill's administration. Not only was there a thank you note but a picture that sure looks like she worked with him although according to you that was impossible.
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/01/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-health-care-thank-you/
Instead of trying to assert something about Bernie as fact, why don't you stick to the truth. YOU DONT SUPPORT BERNIE SANDERS FOR PRESIDENT. That I can not challenge. It is your right. It is a lie to present as fact a claim that nobody else likes him.

(787 posts)Both of these articles are from after he declared his presidential run. Every candidate has people who comment on them after they nominate. I have read your posts for years. There were many more negative articles about Hillary after she declared for another presidential run than before. Do you think the fact that someone published an opinion or article in 2015 that stated that Hillary was a liar all her life, proved that. Of course not
Every single candidate and person on this planet has people that have liked them and people who have not over the course of his life. When they declare for public office, lots of people claim things about candidates that are not true. He has had people who have worked with him his whole political career as well as people who disagree with him. Some of them cloak their political disagreements with attacks on a persons character. Does that seem familiar with respect to candidates you support?

(32,640 posts)If you assume that every comment that came out after Sanders declared that vets him in a way that is not flattering is an attack, then you must also apply the same metric to any comment that flatter him as being equally suspicious in their accuracy.
Are you doing that?
Doesn't look like it.
Disregarding any vetting that you don't like as being false or an attack isn't applying critical thought. One also needs to be aware of the silence of lots of people who have worked directly with the candidate when it comes time for endorsing them, yes?
Are you saying that about the comments of those who worked FOR him? Did you even read the articles? Those people say that he has good ideas. They are referring to how he is to work with. Barney Frank said these things years ago, when he and Sanders started working together.... Did Bernie tell he him he was going to declare someday?
False equivalency aside, the opinions that I posted are from people who have worked with Bernie. And yes, I take endorsements into account.
If someone's coworkers, en masse, don't recommend them for a promotion, one doesn't assume all those coworkers are lying.
Just as one doesn't assume when the vast majority of another's coworkers strongly recommend them as a qualified and pleasant candidate for the promotion, that they have 'threatened' all those people to praise them...
Does that seem familiar with respect to candidates you support?
Lack of endorsements from one's colleagues and coworkers indicates that one has alienated one's colleagues and coworkers them, or they don't think that person is qualified. Do you recall any articles coming out with statements from co-workers and colleagues about Hillary being difficult to work with or abusive to staff over the years? No? If there had been, it would have been immediately posted on DU. And, of course the sheer numbers of people who have worked with her that endorsed her would have disproved that immediately. Perhaps that's why no one tried to promote that lie. Lies about other things were spread right here about her, such as "she publicly went after the women who accused Bill" and if one did state the fact that this smear was based on a private conversation where she was expressing frustration about her marriage and was leaked," one was called "naive," and a "correct the record shill."
So does that answer your question?
Interestingly, now Sanders is attempting to make being personally disagreeable into a plus. How do you square that with your assumption that only those who have political disagreements with him are saying this about him?

(787 posts)My point is that every person in the world has people in their past that did not get along with them or have an opinion about them that is less than accurate. I am sure that is true of you and sure its true of every candidate who has worked with people. Do you know Bernie, NO. Do you know the person who wrote the article. NO Do you know the people who are quoted saying bad things about him. NO. When you claim something about someone;s character without any real knowledge based on a few articles during a campaign you are just spreading gossip based on your own biases.
I really didn't want to spend a lot of time researching. Here is an article (unfortunately from Forbes) about attitudes of employees to their bosses. Let me give you a hint, its not always favorable. With a public figure doing things like politicians, every single one of them will have co workers, employees, and peers that have not liked them over time. If you want to do a hit piece on a candidate its easy to find one sided evidence to malign their character. That is my problem with this thread and the daily attacks. Its all by people who don't like Bernie and pretend that its based on fact. Here is one but it would be easy to find more. Look in the mirror and think of your own past. If someone wanted to cherry pick your past, could you put together an article full of quotes from people who have some bone to pick with you, small or big.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/williamarruda/2017/12/12/what-employees-really-think-about-their-boss/
Is someone you know shy or stuck up. It depends on who you talk to ALWAYS. Over a person's life, people change and their interactions with people vary. My early girl friends I am sure have different views of who I am then my wife of 30 years and my daughters. We change over time and people always have different perceptions on who you are depending on who they are. You post an article by someone you don't know and call it fact and ignore the fact. You ignore his popularity with other democrats for years. You claim his co-workers cant work with him and ignore his work with the Progressive Caucus and other issues some of care about. Hillary now hits him. I earlier posted an article showing a note thanking him for all his work with you. You don't like Bernie. Others do. Don't like his policies go ahead. Claim that no one will work with him based on the fact that when Bernie was first in congress, he ran into Barny Frank (also with a reputation of being opinionated and stubborn) and a claim by one or more journalists that his co workers don't like him is below you.
You are spreading gossip from articles during a campaign. I am a fan of Elizabeth who you seem to support and she is probably my candidate this year. However, its easy to find articles calling her "cold", "calculating" "school marmish". I am sure you would dismiss these articles because they are in the middle of a campaign where press people have mixed motives. Further they have elements of traditional sexist attacks on women. In Bernie's case, some of the character attacks reference traditional Anti-Semetic attacks on Jewish men.
I hope you actually get the point. Post all you want disagreeing with his policies and favoring policies put out by your favored candidates. Posting character attacks are character attacks no matter how many times you say they are not attacks. These type of attacks are bad politics not good politics.

(45,037 posts)But then, one could plausibly say the same thing about Clinton. We cant know whether Bernie (or Martin OMalley) would have won. But we do know that Clinton ultimately proved to be the second-most-unpopular major-party nominee in American history. And we also know that Clinton pulled few punches and offered no timely surrender during her 2008 campaign against Barack Obama, which makes her complaints about Sanderss intransigence and attacks in 2016 more than a little hypocritical.
All this said, Clintons antipathy for Sanders is understandable. But the criticisms she levies in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter range from misleading to mendacious. Her refusal to pledge her support for Sanders in a general election, meanwhile, would be shameful even if her critiques of the socialist senator were all indisputably true.
It is true that Bernie Sanders has been in Congress for years and that Jeff Merkley was the only senator to endorse him in the 2016 primary. But everything else Clinton says here is false. Eight members of Congress have endorsed the Vermont senator this cycle, including the co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and three of the Houses most prominent first-term congresswomen. The fact that these lawmakers have rallied to Sanderss side despite the presence of another viable progressive candidate in the race suggests that they have a high-level of interest in working with him.

(145,079 posts)sanders was a weak and ineffective candidate last cycle that no one bother to vet him and the Clinton campaign treated sanders with kid gloves because sanders had no chance in the real world of being the nominee. The press did not vet sanders because sanders was such a weak candidate and it would have been a waste of their time VOX had a good article on the potential lines of attack that Sanders would be exposed to if Sanders was the nominee. http://www.vox.com/2016/2/3/10903404/gop-campaign-against-sanders One of the more interesting observations in the VOX analysis is the fact that Sanders have been treated with kids gloves compared to what Sanders would face if he was the Democratic nominee. I strongly agree with the VOX's position that the so-called negative attacks against Sander have been mild. Form the article:
I have no interest in litigating any of these attacks here. Like any Democrat elected president in 2016, Sanders wouldn't be able to get much done, but he would block attempts to roll back Obama's accomplishments and have a chance to fill a few Supreme Court vacancies.
When Sanders supporters discuss these attacks, though, they do so in tones of barely contained outrage, as though it is simply disgusting what they have to put up with. Questioning the practical achievability of single-payer health care. Impugning the broad electoral appeal of socialism. Is nothing sacred?
But c'mon. This stuff is patty-cakes compared with the brutalization he would face at the hands of the right in a general election.
His supporters would need to recalibrate their umbrage-o-meters in a serious way.
Sanders was treated with kid gloves by the Clinton campaign because of the amusing over-reactions of the Sanders supporters in the primary process. It appears that you are upset that Hillary Clinton did not use all of the oppo research that was available. Sanders was a weak candidate and would have been destroyed if the oppo research was used.
I am glad that Biden is not treating this weak candidate with kid gloves and that Joe is calling sanders out for his lies

If there isn't an apology issued, that's bad. If there is that's just more evidence of... well something too late or disingenuous or bad in some other way, it doesn't really matter because it's just another negative narrative to reinforce.
People seem to feel good about condemning politics as usual but then participate in it enthusiastically when the alignment works for them.

She loves this country, and her kids, and her grandkids. She knows that if someone doesnt step in and point out the obvious, all of those things are in grave danger.
Bernie, and his Bernie or Bust followers, are a good part of the reason why winning by three million votes still resulted in a loss.
Those of us who love this country, our children, and our grandchildren have to do whatever it takes to undo the damage being done by Trump and the GOP. Bernie is an impediment to that. If he cares as much as he claims he does, he needs to go to work mending fences and steering his vocal followers toward a candidate that can win. Im not holding my breath.

(5,801 posts)And is completely ludicrous.
I know you don't actually fucking worry that anyone here would prefer four more years of Trump over Bernie. That's some simplistic transparent bait there.
What we would prefer is a candidate that doesn't attack the Democratic Party on the reg. What we would prefer is a candidate that doesn't surround himself with third party supporters. What we would prefer is a candidate who can unite the party instead of hiring surrogates who seem intent on trashing other candidates and burning the party to the ground. What we would prefer is a candidate not pretending to sell a fake revolution that makes OUR PARTY the problem instead of the Republicans.
You are correct. Division serves no one but Trump.

(121 posts)As Ambassador McFaul said on Bill Maher last night, that's the real Hillary. She is writing books and in documentaries these days, and she just feels free to let her opinions be known without worrying too much for niceties as she would when she had the responsibility of uniting the Party.
That's Hillary, she was the one who also called a certain segment of the Republican Party, a bunch of deplorables.
