I personally think that answer is fine. I also think it would be fine for Sanders to have said essentially the same thing in response to a question of if he'll support someone else in the case he doesn't get the nomination. There's a primary underway. That said, I think it is helpful to defeating Trump if there were a higher level of unity among all those opposed to Trump's reelection.

As we have been reminded now for 4+ years. I completely get her bitterness towards Sanders, but we’re gonna need her to do the right thing and be 100% enthusiastic about the Dem nominee. It’s too important, and she has way too many supporters who will be watching how she handles this. Supporters who have spent 4 years blaming Sanders and his team for not being as enthusiastic as he might have been for giving us Trump.

If we lose it's because of his rampant criminality - he will have stolen it, period.the.end. He will use voter suppression but also hacking. I believe they will go full in on stealing our election. Now, will they manipulate the voter database - erasing Dems, or just flip Dem to Repug votes during the reporting process or find some other wholesale illegal way to do this?

Yes, there will be some jerks who are purists (all Bernies' top folks are examples) and who won't vote if their preferred person isn't the one, but most people will recognize this existential threat and vote for the D, for sanity, for health, for our constitution. GOTV and all hands on deck is the only way we win. Hope that will happen when it's crunch time.

Not you, Autumn. I'm not shooting the messenger, I promise!

Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I have a hard time believing a man would be treated this same way if he'd had a bitter primary battle with Sanders and declined to commit support at this point in time.

Secretary Clinton also said, ""I'm not going to go there yet. We're still in a very vigorous primary season," and "I'll do anything I can to defeat the current incumbent, and to reverse a lot of his damaging policies." in the same damn interview.

I just see this of one more example of how women expressing disappointment and/or bitterness are castigated as whiners or being unfair while men who do likewise are standing up for themselves or just telling it like it is.

She didn't say every last Bernie supporter was a white male troll on Twitter. But damn it, plenty were and Bernie never unequivocally disavowed the behavior or told them to knock it the hell off. At least not that I could tell.

For full disclosure, I voted for Bernie in the 2016 primary. Later came to wish I hadn't.

America, but right now, she's staying outside the Primary battle but if she's going to tip her hand for anyone, it's understandable that it won't be Gabbard, and it certainly wouldn't be Sanders.

There's a sweet irony to see Sanders supporters losing their shit over her answer though. Karma's a beach.

No, I'm not a US citizen, but my brother and his family live in the US and have always voted Dem
Yes I chime in a lot, but my post count says "not a ton"
It's outrageous of you to say that "most of it negative". Maybe I don't agree with a lot of your personal positions ? I don't know what your positions are, I'm not keeping score !
Like it our not, what happens in the US affects us in Europe, in a large way, never more so than now. If Trump wins another 4 years, i fear for not just the US, but democracy all over the world.

We are stronger together! and if democracy is going to survive we need to keep up the conversation.

So "chime in."

Probably because of JFK, but the vast majority of the Irish people have been pro the Democratic Party, and long may it continue. The likes of myself understand how important it is to have a Democratic President, never more so than in 2020.

But I don't know whether Hillary would have been welcome by Bernie's campaign to support him. He has some notable Hillary haters working for him and if you follow twitter, a considerable fraction of Bernie's supporters really despise Clinton. Hillary derangement syndrome is a factor that is unfortunately really strong in his "movement". So it's a non-issue either way.

He didn't say she said she wouldn't commit to supporting Bernie. He correctly pointed out that declining to comment if she would commit to support him should he be the nominee is wrong. Hillary is not some surrogate or a nobody off the street. Her words matter.

As for the whining? I haven't seen a Sanders supporter whine in this thread yet.

F
or example, the Sanders campaign sent out an edited transcript of something Biden said about Social Security, claiming that he agreed with former Republican Speaker Paul Ryan. Politifact rated that statement false. Here is the part of the speech they left out.
Now, I don’t know a whole lot of people in the top one-tenth of 1 percent or the top 1 percent who are relying on Social Security when they retire. I don’t know a lot of them. Maybe you guys do. So we need a pro-growth, progressive tax code that treats workers as job creators, as well, not just investors; that gets rid of unprotective loopholes like stepped-up basis; and it raises enough revenue to make sure that the Social Security and Medicare can stay, it still needs adjustments, but can stay; and pay for the things we all acknowledge will grow the country.

Since the campaign got caught in that lie, Sanders supporters have attempted to claim that Biden has been advocating for cutting Social Security for 40 years. As is often the case with disinformation, that is based on a half-truth. To solve a budget impasse in 1995, Biden supported a freeze on all federal spending, including cost of living adjustments to Social Security. Then there was his support for an Obama proposal to change the way cost of living increases were calculated, including both the income tax tables and Social Security. But the Sanders campaign turned those positions into an accusation that Biden attempted to “slash Social Security.”
An honest look at the totality of Biden’s position on Social Security would come from listening to Jared Bernstein, a progressive economist who served as an advisor to the former vice president.

.....Some of us spoke up when Sanders hired David Sirota because his modus operandi was obvious to anyone who knew his history. Sirota has a reputation of being a ruthless attack dog. The campaign had to know that when they hired him. But now it seems that Sirota went too far with his attacks and his boss has been forced to apologize.

It is clear that the Sanders campaign will rely on attacks against his opponents. But this latest incident demonstrates that they are still struggling with where the boundaries are for those negative attacks. It is good to know that, at least for the candidate himself, accusing Biden of being corrupt is outside the boundary.

Her tweet on the subject made that clear.

All she was saying was that she didn't want to jump the gun and talk about any particular candidate as a future nominee while the primary was ongoing.

She has repeatedly made it clear that she will support the ticket.

I don't care - ultimately - there's one person still in it that I detest but she doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning the nomination without the Russians rigging it for her like they did for Trump in the GE.

Any of our candidates would be better than trump.

And I think you would agree- that Biden, Warren, Klobuchar, Buttigieg, Steyer, Bloomberg -

Would be a far better choice than Trump.

Correct? You DO intend to go all out for the eventual nominee even if it is NOT Sanders - right? Like - you aren't going to smear them, or be angry. You are going to get down to work - right?
