Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWarren now also knocking Biden on Social Security
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has joined Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in critiquing fellow Democratic presidential primary opponent Joe Biden's Social Security record.
Warren appeared united with Sanders on hitting the former vice president's record after a couple of weeks of tension between the two liberal candidates.
Bernie Sanders and I established the 'Expand Social Security Caucus in the Senate, Warren told Politico. As a senator, Joe Biden had a very different position on Social Security, and I think everyone's records on Social Security are important in this election.

Sanders speechwriter David Sirota later tweeted a separate video of Biden during his time in the Senate arguing for a freeze on federal spending programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

(3,855 posts)Because you know there are several videos going back to at least 1984 where Biden says he wanted to cut Social Security. And Medicare.
I realize Biden wants to run away from this and not talk about it. But everyone is going to talk about it.

(3,855 posts)Wasnt'Biden double digits ahead at one point?
Wasn't there a time when Biden didn't even have to depend on the black vote in S. Carolina to save his campaign?
Personally I dont' think anyone is entitled to anyone's vote.

(3,855 posts)Biden's record is chock full of attack ads for trump.
I don't understand why some Biden supporters seem to think Trump wouldn't use Biden's 40 years of history on this against him.

(13,168 posts)He has said he won't cut SS by even one red cent and will, in fact, shore up its funding for the future. That's a promise from a trustworthy Dem who is by far our strongest candidate in the GE. End of argument. Best bet found. What he (or Warren or Sanders) may or may not have said or considered in the past means zip.
Social Security needs someone who can win, not someone who can fight. Fighters are a dime a dozen. Joe can win. Obama and he did win. I'd much rather have a binding promise to preserve Social Security from someone who wins than a track record of consistent promises from someone who consistently doesn't win. If we don't win, Republicans will privatize, deprive, and sabotage SS. They are loving the idea of Social Security being championed by people who won't be able to get power.
We keep getting lost in this idea that because somebody supposedly "fought" for something in the past it means they own it. Nope. You get no credit for fights you don't win...those should actually cost you credit. Where are Social Security's finances now after the creation of the "Expand Social Security Caucus?" Answer: still in need of more shoring up. Biden's promising to shore it up, and Biden will win.

(49,940 posts)He keeps doing and saying things that don't support SS.
The most flagrant was favoring chained CPI as part of a grand bargain. There is a reasonable fear that Biden, will revert back to this kind of deal making with Republicans and weaken SS.

Very bad move by Warren to ape Sanders. How did that go for her the last time she tried it?
These attacks are false and damaging to our party's prospects.
