"What I feel we need is a candidate who is entirely authentic about what's wrong and steadfast about it and can rally people to believe he can trust them," Jayapal told the Washington Post on Sunday. "Bernie has that. I can feel Bernie beating Trump."
Sanders, she further explained, "has a clarity on policy prescriptions that goes right to the heart of what working people need."
In a tweet, Sanders praised Jayapal as "a brilliant leader for progressive ideas."
"She has led the fight against Trump's racism, sexism and xenophobia" added Sanders. "Together, we will defeat Trump and build a working class movement and transform this country so it works for all."

(3,855 posts)And I mean, when a progressive primaries an incumbent, we are told that will weaken the Democratic party as a whole.
I guess you don't' accept that claim. Good , neither do I.
However she hasn't changed her politics. So not sure why her endorsing someone should matter. I am disappointed Presley didn't' endorse Sanders. But I hardly think that means she should be thrown out of office since I still like where she stands on issues over all.

(3,855 posts)And Sanders did pretty well in states like Wisconsin and Michigan, two swing states.
But somehow none of that matters. For .. reasons. It doesn't' matter if Sanders is popular among Democrats. And it doesn't matter that Sanders is popular among Independents. It doesn't' even matter that Sanders has inroads to those elusive switch voters the centrists say we want. I am hard-pressed to think of what group of voters is left that you think we can win with.
Getting an endorsement from a progressive in a deep blue state isn't a negative at all.
If Sanders is popular in deep blue states, that undermines the idea that he isn't' popular in Democratic strongholds. I mean, why shouldn't Democrats approve of their own candidate?
And if we add in his support in Red and Purple states, that just further shows Sanders broad support.

(6,206 posts)The election in November is about having more than Dems and left leaners vote for you. Seriously focus on that please.

(11,954 posts)There are Trump die-hards, no Dem is going to get any of that vote. But there are people who voted for Trump last time who could come our way this time.
Biden has more appeal to those moderate/centrist Republicans and independents who never liked Trump to begin with, but didn't see Hillary as an acceptable alternative.
Sanders has more appeal to that particular kind of Trump voter--whether on the left OR the right but not centrist--who voted for him because he was the "anti establishment" candidate up against Hillary, even though they didn't particularly care for Trump.
Both groups are significant, I'm not sure which is bigger.
The other group to go after are those who didn't vote at all last time, whether because they really didn't like either choice, or they hadn't yet turned old enough to vote. I think Sanders has the edge with these groups, certainly the latter.
So yes, I think Sanders would have a path to victory against Trump, and polls bear that out, including polls showing Sanders beating Trump in crucial swings states (as Biden does as well). And as polls show, Biden certainly has a path as well.

(48,731 posts)going on feelings, getting the words in the right order doesn't matter.
FWIW, I can see Sanders losing badly to Trump after the GOP starts using its oppo research against him, if Sanders is the nominee, so I'm glad I can feel pretty confident from the polls that we'll nominate Biden.
The candidate Trump is terrified of.
