How would Donald Trump run against Bernie Sanders? Here's what he said in Tampa.

Last edited Sun Jan 12, 2020, 03:32 AM - Edit history (1)

I'd Love to Run Against 'The Communist'

'I'd also love to run against the communist'

'I never thought we'd see the day in our country, when a communist – because that's really, you think about it – when a communist is the leading Democrat!'

'We're going to have a communist against an entrepreneur. I like the entrepreneur. Don't you think?

Tampa Bay Rally, February 23, 2016

EDIT: Cold War stuff. Of course, when trump actually had a chance to fight against 'The Communists' in Vietnam, he cut and ran.

You said, "Bernie would talk circles around Trump on healthcare"?

I seriously doubt that Trump won the Republican primary based on his command of the nuances of healthcare. Trump won based in large part on scapegoating immigrants. While Bernie's own past scapegoating and race baiting with anti-immigrant, anti "open borders" rhetoric has won him some right wing admirers like Steve King (R) and Ann Coulter (see Newsweek article below), Bernie is not going to out scapegoat Donald Trump. Bernie might win the Iowa primary with his anti-immigrant views that he sells as populism, but the Iowa general?

https://www.newsweek.com/ann-coulter-bernie-sanders-borders-policy-2020-1399991

ANN COULTER WOULD VOTE FOR BERNIE SANDERS' ORIGINAL BORDER POLICY DESPITE 'THE REST OF THE SOCIALIST STUFF

Right-wing pundit and immigration hawk Ann Coulter said she could vote and perhaps even work for democratic socialist Bernie Sanders if he stuck to his "original position" on U.S. border policy.

Sanders, the independent senator for Vermont and a candidate in the Democratic primary for the party's 2020 presidential nomination, is liberal on many immigration issues but is staunchly opposed to open borders, despite the policy's popularity on the left.

"If he went back to his original position, which is the pro blue-collar position—I mean, it totally makes sense with him," Coulter said in an appearance on PBS's Firing Line with Margaret Hoover on Wednesday night.

"If he went back to that position, I'd vote for him, I might work for him. I don't care about the rest of the socialist stuff. Just, can we do something for ordinary Americans?"

Sun Jan 12, 2020, 12:52 AM
Jan 2020

Bernie would negate any attack on Trump for being too cozy with Russia.

1. Trump and the infamous meeting regarding lifting Magnitzky Act sanctions? No problem, because Bernie was one of the few members of Congress who voted against them because he apparently is fine with Russian Oligarchs?
2. Trump being hostile to NATO? No problem, because Bernie also thinks NATO is a waste of U.S. tax dollars and advocated adding Russia as a member.
3. Sanctions for Russian interference in 2017? No problem, because Bernie was one of two Senators (the other was Rand Paul) who voted against them.
4. What about the close Senate vote to prevent Trump from lifting sanctions on Russian oligarchs in 2018? Well, Bernie missed that vote again, because he had stuff do.
5. Video tapes of Trump in Russia? Well, Bernie has his own Soviet video tapes.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/17/bernie-sanders-mystery-soviet-video-revealed-1330347

BURLINGTON, Vt. — It’s 1988 and newlywed Bernie Sanders is in the Soviet Union with his wife, Jane, handing out gifts to the mayor of a midsized city they’ve befriended. The mood is festive as the two bestow the items: A Beatles album, a red “Bernie for Burlington” button, “delicious Vermont candy” and a tape of tunes Sanders recorded himself with fellow artists from Vermont, among other goodies.

“I have met many fine mayors in the United States,” Sanders says, “but I want to say that one of the nicest mayors I've ever met is the mayor of Yaroslavl.”

At another point, a member of Sanders’ delegation hands a Russian woman a small American flag.

“If you’re wondering what’s wrong with capitalism, it’s made in Hong Kong," he jokes. "Sorry about that.”

A conscientious objector has to sign a statement they are unwilling to use any weapon in combat, or condone the use of weapons for any purpose.

It's a special class of service they offer to people who have strong moral or religious objections to killing. In some cases, co's served on front lines in non-combat functions, and some were killed in action. So it wasn't a sure thing.

But if you aren't willing to use force to protect your country, it's kind of a big hole in your job description as potus.

Unbelievable how stupid people have become. Bernie has never said he is a ''Communist'', and of course most of Trump's base has no knowledge of what the term implies. Actually all they really care about is not paying any taxes, especially taxes that go toward helping any poor African Americans or Hispanic citizens.

42. Obama campaign guru: Trump would love to run against Bernie
Mon Jan 13, 2020, 07:20 PM
Jan 2020

Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign manager is warning that Democrats would struggle in a general election against Donald Trump if Bernie Sanders is the nominee.

In an interview with POLITICO, Jim Messina predicted that Trump would exploit Sanders’ stamp of socialism in battleground states needed to defeat Trump, keep control of the House and have a shot at winning the Senate.

“If I were a campaign manager for Donald Trump and I look at the field, I would very much want to run against Bernie Sanders,” Messina said. “I think the contrast is the best. He can say, ‘I’m a business guy, the economy’s good and this guy’s a socialist.’ I think that contrast for Trump is likely one that he’d be excited about in a way that he wouldn’t be as excited about Biden or potentially Mayor Pete or some of the more Midwestern moderate candidates.”....

“From a general election perspective, socialism is not going to be what Democrats are going to want to defend,” Messina added.“If you’re the Democratic nominee for the Montana Senate race, you don’t want to spend the election talking about socialism.”

Messina is the latest Democrat to raise concerns about Sanders at the top of the ticket. Endangered House Democrats are coalescing around Biden because of concerns that Sanders or Elizabeth Warren could threaten their reelection hopes, POLITICO reported Saturday.

Cuba and Venezuela, then leave it the Dems to explain the differences between communism, socialism and 'democratic socialism' - a conversation just where they want it.

I can hear him now. He says he's not a communist - not a communist - where did he take his honeymoon - communist Russia.

The most extreme form of course, allowing only one state party and centralized control of the nation. But collective ownership and labor, etc.

On the plus side, Sanders has not exactly been informative about what Democratic socialism is, so most of his supporters would be forced to finally learn what that is, and is not, in order to defend it. "Oh, this is what he wants to do... Oh."

And, everyone would also learn why Sanders assumes an oppositional congress, Dems and Repubs, that will require him to create giant waves of support among the people to force the legislative branch to surrender to the president's will, or else. Representatives the same people also just elected, but hey, vote for 'em in November, march in the streets threatening to throw them out in February, May, August, October...

Sanders defines socialism as what we already have in our liberal democracy, government schools, roads, and so.

I studied this in college long ago, btw, at a time when common discussion differentiated the big, threatening Soviet and Chinese communist governments from the revolutionary socialist governments elsewhere. Common labels in no way alter the reality that all the various forms these governments took were collectivist socialist systems at base.
