Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf Bernie Sanders can run in 2020, so should Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton has not announced a 2020 presidential campaign though we already know what would happen if she did.
Boisterous (mostly male) political pundits would immediately lay an axe to her candidacy, decrying her selfish and illogical attempts to serve the American public in the White House. Democratic lawmakers would urge her to withdraw from the race, calling for unity in the battle against Donald Trump. And when it comes to the president, his sexist smears would once again ignite an exhaustive election cycle riddled with false double standards.
Even the prospect of Clinton launching another run for the Oval Office has produced fervently critical commentary: headlines in recent weeks have read, Please, God, not Hillary.
All in all, a campaign roll-out for Hillary would face far more backlash than that of Bernie Sanders, whose 2020 announcement was met with millions of dollars in donations from voters in every state across the country and swift analysis on how the lifelong Independent lawmaker could possibly win in an ever-crowded pool of popular Democrats.

I hope most people dont do what I am thinking about doing, tuning out. If the people on OUR SIDE (allegedly) do the damage they do then why do I bother anymore?
For instance ANYONE who says Bernie should run and Hillary shouldnt...I dont want to read that here, I better NOT read that here.

(10,143 posts)There is no indication that she has any intention of running. If she did run I would definitely consider supporting her again.

(30,733 posts)pimping one of his many hastily written books. It was not long after the "election." He said that Hillary should sit down and be quiet.
There was no huge outcry over what he said about Hillary. Yet if ONE person suggests that BS go away, or that AOC should stop traveling for a bit and pay attention to learning her job and to her constituents, people here have a cow.
Can we debate the merits of each candidate without the nastiness of last time?

(14,565 posts)Hillary is remembered as a loser. Many people who voted for her don't admit it. It is an interesting dynamic that is always recognized by polling firms. I have seen in play out on several sports sites recently. I distinctly remember some guys who supported Hillary in 2016, but now on those forums they try to deny it or deflect it, saying they disliked Hillary but simply preferred her above Trump. I am virtually the only one who continues to champion Hillary.
Rematches to the victor is a boxing truism and it works elsewhere also. I love wagering on anti-revenge in sports. And I was always so impressed with Al Gore staying away from 2004, despite calls for him to run and assumption he would run. Gore probably understood he would get beaten in routine fashion the second time.

(2,331 posts)I'd also rather Bernie didn't either. He is just going to restart the inter party war we had and I know it is agist but I don't particularly like people in their 70s running for President.
I'd like Biden to stay out as well. That generation had their shot at leadership and it is time to let a new generation have an opportunity.

(146,286 posts)Why would she subject herself one more time to the heinous attacks by people purporting to be from her own Party?
By all rights, she should be sitting in the White House right now. Had some who call themselves Democrats not abandoned the party in 2016, she would be doing just that.
If I were here, I would not run again, either. I would wash my hands of politics altogether and do something else for the rest of my life.
I voted for her, because she was the legitimate Democratic nominee. I would do so again, but completely understand her unwillingness to subject herself to the calumny heaped upon her the last time.
