If Biden wins the nomination can he unite the party by picking Bernie Sanders as VP?

or Warren.
Whoever is the "2nd place" person to the nom, really.
I'm just assuming it will end something like that, like 2016

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Castro
Booker
Harris

Maybe one of them, most likely not from that list though...I would expect that Castro would get the most consideration as Harris and Booker might be strong candidates for cabinet slots as well, hell maybe all 3 would be...

I would expect Stacy Abrams name to come up, but not seriously be a consideration (or that she would even WANT to be considered)...

In the end, if it is Joe that wins the nomination, then Andrew Gillum would make a lot of sense in some ways, and would provide some symmetry with the 2008 and 2012 winning tickets as well.

His campaign is divisive by design; it's not intended to unite anything. His frequent shots at the party, the "establishment", and any Democrat who doesn't buy into his brand are proof of that. Taking the #2 spot doesn't seem like his style, either.

Besides, two aging white men aren't going to unite anything, either. Some are already having a difficult time with the possibility of one at the top of the ticket. Two's not going to fly.

I think not. Sanders doesn't need anything Biden has to offer, least of all money because Biden is dragging in donations. He's something like $10 million behind the leader. Bernie, of course, is leading the pack in small donations.

58. Biden wanted Warren for his running mate in 2016 if he'd run.

Reportedly, Warren was THE choice for Biden, and they even met to discuss the possibility.

But that intractable faction of Sanders' supporters who reject Democrats won't vote for her. There aren't that many of them, but few would vote for Biden if Sanders were the running mate. They've all promised to once again decamp to Trump or whoever can cause us trouble after Sanders is out of the race.

Remember, in 2016 these people were outraged by Sanders' long-delayed, reluctant endorsement of HRC, and they noisily and angrily rejected his leadership when he issued his statement that they should support her. Instead, they launched the "Demexit" movement to try to get people to leave the Democratic Party. Their specific purpose was to destroy America's liberal progressive party and throw the nation to the mercies of the Republicans.

These are destroyers, not builders, and not about to unite.

On the plus side, Sanders' Democratic supporters, easily the larger faction, will once again support our nominee, period. He's their current preference, not their cult leader or weapon.

Joe Biden

Biden really thought he needed a VP pick to solidify the left of the party he could find a lot better options.

I think the democratic ticket needs to be diverse, both in race and gender if possible. I think the pick should also come from a battleground state. They also need to be qualified for the job. They should also be (relatively) young and if they have experience with legislation that's a plus too.

Stacy Abrams gets mentioned a lot, but what is her resume? She was minority leader of a state house and then lost an election for Governor. Essentially the same can be said for Andrew Gillum.

I've said before that one of my favorite picks would be Anthony Foxx. He is black, served as Secretary of Transportation under Obama (was approved 100-0 and did a spectacular job while in office). He was a popular mayor of Charlotte and is a NC native (Went to Davidson). He's young and wouldn't even turn 50 before the election. He is a lawyer. He clerked for a US Appeals Court judge and worked in the DoJ and for the House Judiciary Committee. He was campaign manager for Mel Watt in 2004.

He would be a great choice, imo.

He would be an asset in the election and he has shown a knack to find innovative ways to get projects accomplished and he'd help get agenda items through.

we’re looking at two 78 year old front runners when we have excellent women candidates. (In this moment) I’m feeling discouraged. The 2020 election will be the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote. C’mon, fellow women, let’s do this. It’s our turn.

Biden is 77, Bernie 78, Warren 70.

It is more likely than not, given the level of care people up at that level have access to, that these ages won’t be a problem, but at those ages, there IS always the reasonable possibility of natural mortality. Sure, it’s possible at ANY age, but the biological science is undeniable that the higher that age goes, the higher the potential.

Given historic’s, it’s more likely than not that if we get our POTUS in 2020, the 2022 House will flip back to Republican control.

If any of our 3 frontrunners take the nomination, the smart move would make the VP a younger person.

and not someone who has proven for decades that he isn't a teamplayer with not much to show for.

Concerning Warren, it would be up to her if she accepts that. I think she'd prefer to remain a Senator.

Uniting the party is hard to accomplish with only one person. We shouldn't act as if there is only one group that deserves accommodation and compromise just because they scream the loudest. It's also kind of insulting to the most loyal groups of the Party.
