Democratic Primaries

I know that there has been some discussion here of Bernie Sanders' support, or lack of support, from people of color, women, and other demographic groups. I was wondering how much of that was anecdotal and how much of that might be supported by polling data.
I found an interesting article on Vox that addresses that subject, in part. I was wondering what people here at DU might think about the subject and the article. The article is titled "Bernie Sanders' base is diverse- and very young." Here is a link:

(713 posts)Do you have a source backing up this assertion, or is it just an opinion? Where are you getting this information? Have you spent a lot of time observing the crowds at Sanders rallies? Has any Political Scientist done a count or study on this question? If not, you are dealing with anecdotal evidence at best.

(713 posts)Someone blurred some pictures of people at a Sanders Rally. Why? What is it supposed to mean? I am not clear on what the point of the post was. Can you explain it more plainly?

But the problem Sanders faces in appealing to black voters was staring at him as he spoke for an hour recently at the gym of the Royal Missionary Baptist Church: Of the more than 1,600 people who came to see the candidate, fewer than 40 were black.....
Black voters played a critical role in picking the last two Democratic nominees, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and its hard to see a path to the Democratic nomination without significant black support.
About 25 percent of Democratic primary voters in 2016 were African American, and in key states, including South Carolina, the figure was much higher.

The article says "Sanders is more popular with people of color than white people, and women like Sanders as much as men do, if not more."
Lets take the first part of that sentence. It tells you so little nothing can be determined from it. So I then went to the poll that led them to write the sentence in that manner. It is over 330 pages. I'm not going to even look through the Index to find the information.
Now lets look at the second part. It is in conflict with itself. Do they like him as much or more? Do they even like him? Again, 330 page poll to look at. The sentence itself is truly meaningless as it stands.

(713 posts)I did not read the underlying documentation either, but Vox is a legitimate news source. I trust that they are representing the data properly.
Most people do not have the time to dig I into detailed studies and polls. We have to find news sources that are reliable. I think that Vox is reliable. Your experience might be different.

(3,259 posts)I agree with you, overall, when it comes to VOX. That is why I point out how empty that sentence is. It's not a matter of trust. It's a matter of writing sentences that are meaningless. Which many of the sentences in the article are. It is not a factual thesis.
