Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumNew Fox News Poll Has Biden Unseating Trump
Former vice president Joe Biden, who has not yet announced his candidacy, leads President Donald Trump by seven percentage points, 47 to 40, in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup for the presidency according to a new Fox News poll of registered voters.
Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), when matched head-to-head in the poll, would also send Trump home, but by a smaller margin of 44 percent to 41 percent. But Trump edges out two other democratic contenders, Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), by only two points.
Biden also topped the list when Democratic primary voters were asked their preference on who should lead the ticket. Biden bested Sanders by eight percentage points, 31 percent to 23 percent.

The same poll also found that most Americans, 52 percent, think the president attempted to interfere with Robert Muellers investigation into Russian interference in the election. And 44 percent said they believe that the 2016 Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government during the election cycle.
Of course, it is way too early to read anything definitive into these presidential polls; name recognition plays a major role in the results. The last two presidents, for different reasons, both did not hold leads in early polling. But, for now, they are an interesting snapshot of the political landscape, but little more.

(6,110 posts)Biden is superbly qualified, but does he have the energy to run a long and grueling presidential campaign?
Elizabeth Warren has energy to spare and has the gravitas to tackle big banks & Wall street, which is the real reason why middle class has their tits in the wringer.

(26,044 posts)...he hasn't been "through the wringer" that all the announced candidates have. (I assume you've noticed that, the minute any of our candidates announced, there was immediately a deluge of negative talking points hitting social media about them. I wonder why...?) I do know he, like any other potential candidate, is far from perfect, and there are some positions from his past (his anti-school-integration positions in the 1970s, his handling of the Clarence Thomas hearings, his enthusiastic backing of Dubya's bankruptcy bill) that are sure to get brought to the forefront of public consciousness the minute he announces. Will they make a dent? We won't know as long as he's on the sidelines. Also, I really haven't seen him since the Obama administration; considering the concerns about his age, I am hoping the past four years haven't changed his demeanor all that much.
Once again, not saying he might not be the best choice (and certainly not saying that I won't vote for him if he's the nominee), but I think it's too soon to say how a potential 2020 candidacy might fare until we see him "in the arena."

I love Joe Biden. I know he could kick Trump's cowardly ass in a schoolyard fist fight, but I don't think he'd be anywhere near close to being our best shot at winning. Unfortunately, in 2020 he'd be perceived by many voters, especially the younger ones, as the same old/same old when it comes to Washington politics. I think some of our other candidates will stand a better chance at winning than Joe will. Having said that, ANY of our candidates should be able to beat the asshole, with the exception of Gillibrand who I think would be a terrible choice to put out there.

The three candidates that seem to concern the Trump campaign most are Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Beto ORourke. Thats in no particular order, and youll get a different answer depending on who you talk to.
