Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi think we shouldn't get too radical in our campaign positions...

...but what do they know when compared to the opinion of the blogosphere?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Re decent healthcare, when the Social Security Administration runs Medicare For All, it will do so with money saved by health care recipients who pay far more for insurance-based healthcare premiums and overhead ("administrative costs&quot , which cost Americans MANY TIMES MORE times than Medicare's overhead. https://pnhp.org/resource/pnhp-research-the-case-for-a-national-health-program/

Any taxes will be far less than premium payments to privatized health providers, with the advantage of permanent 24/7 coverage and no wrangling with paperwork and tricksy a la cart fees and charges.

I daresay MFA sounds pretty conservative, not radical at all.

203. Warren's latest health plan is causing concerns for some centrist, moderate and rural Democrats
Mon Nov 18, 2019, 05:33 PM
Nov 2019

I and other true Democrats have been working hard to turn Texas blue. We hope to pick up six congressional seats in addition to the two seats we flipped in 2018. We have a chance to defeat Cornyn in the Senate. The Democrats picked up 12 seats in the Texas House and need 9 more to take control of the Texas House prior to the next redistricting session. If Biden is the nominee, Texas will be a battleground state. If Warren or sanders is the nominee. Texas will not be a battle ground state and we can forget about keeping the two seats that we flipped in 2018

Speaker Pelosi is worried about losing control of the House with a weak top of the ballot ticket with a program that will kill down ballot candidates
.

The most-vulnerable Democrat in Colorado’s state House, Bri Buentello, is dreading door-knocking in her rural district now that Elizabeth Warren dropped her massive “Medicare for All” plan into the presidential arena.
“This is going to cause down-ballot damage in swing districts and states if she’s the nominee,” Buentello says, describing how her Pueblo-area constituents — who voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump in 2016 — were already echoing criticisms about a giant, one-size-fits-all big government run plan that cancels private health insurance and raises taxes.
Story Continued Below

The fear of blowback is indicative of the broad and largely negative response to Warren’s proposal from centrist, moderate and rural Democrats — many of whom, like Buentello, back Joe Biden in the primary. And it exposes the fault line between those who fret about winning voters in the center and the activist progressive base propelling Warren to the front of the Democratic pack.

The long-awaited plan to raise the $20.5 trillion she says is needed to pay for single-payer health care in America is Warren’s attempt to answer critics after weeks of questions from rival candidates about the cost of her proposal and the prospect of higher taxes. Warren promised, as she has in the past, that "not one penny in middle-class tax increases” is necessary to finance the effort.

Here are some facts for you, melman. People can be passionate about a candidate, I was for Obama from the beginning. If he had lost the primary I would have been heartbroken and then would have thrown my full support behind the DEMOCRATIC winner. Why? Because our Democracy matters and it is what true Democrat's do.

Evidently he can't handle his "centrist" meme for Hillary isn't working so he's trying to "kill the messenger".

139. The 2008 Primaries were a mixed bag for many Democrats (yes, DEMOCRATS!)....
Sun Nov 17, 2019, 12:34 AM
Nov 2019

I know that early on I was a strong supporter for Hillary Clinton, but as the campaign progressed I saw more of Barack Obama and what he stood for. I slowly migrated to Obama and was a big supporter by late spring.

I would have supported either in the General Election, and obviously Hillary Clinton was a wholehearted supporter of Barack Obama and he recognized her qualifications by choosing her as his first Secretary of State.

Her comments from the floor were proved that out:

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D), New York: Madam Secretary, on behalf of the great state of New York, with appreciation for the spirit and dedication of all who are gathered here, with eyes firmly fixed on the future, in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let's declare together in one voice, right here, right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate, and he will be our president!

Madam Secretary, Madam Secretary, I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules and suspend the further conduct of the roll call vote, all votes cast by the delegates will be counted, and that I move Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois be selected by this convention, by acclamation, as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States!

It's truly sad that some would dwell on a primary campaign 11 years ago and whine that someone was a "basher" because of policy differences.

Bottom line, MOST of us are Democrats and eventually rally around our strongest candidate.

Voters are fairly clear about what they would like from a Democrat. They prefer, by 82% to 11%, one who promises to find common ground over one who promises to fight for a progressive agenda; and they prefer a moderate over a liberal, 75% to 19%.

And this is the 21st century, not the '30s or '60s. I still see people saying things like: Well, FDR did "radical change"! Do they not know that socialism and communism were much more popular, plus the Depression. I'm reading Ed Levine's "Serious Eater" and he says, "Like many poor Jews in New York in the 1930s, my parents became avowed Communists while attending City College. Family lore has it that they met at a Communist Party meeting on campus."

99. Two main anti-Democratic attacks are clear:
Sat Nov 16, 2019, 10:25 PM
Nov 2019

Hillary iz centrist, did not win election because voters carefully studied policy differences between Democrats and Republicans and decided Democratic policies weren't progressive enough, better to have Trump. Biden iz centrist, therefore same thing will happen again.

Biden's support of the ACA with public option and other improvements means Democrats don't ever ever want universal health care and don't care if millions die because they are in the pocket of insurance companies and Big Pharma.

We will be seeing these daily. The only silver lining is that it appears "centrist" is replacing the irritating "establishment."

like millions of Americans. Taking our insurance away in the hopes that a radical socialist plan is going to pass the House or Senate is not going to fly with voters. Every other country isn't America. There are many differences between America and these other countries. People pretend that every other country has a single payer system - it's not true. Canada's system is provincial, not country-wide. Switzerland does not have single payer, etc.

Unions fought hard for generations for their benefits. You really want to just take that away from them? And then expect their vote?

You have to get elected first. The status quo is powerfully attractive, especially when compared with the unknown, no matter the potential upside.

I'm concerned some of our candidates are focusing too much on being disruptive--positive and needed disruption to be , but disruptive nonetheless. And Republicans will certainly stoke the anxiety every chance they can get.

I think I know where Obama and Pelosi are coming from. We should listen.

Last election a conservative RepubliCON told me he would vote for Bernie but he later told me he voted for Trumpy Dumpy. To him Bernie was not radical. Nor was the orange mass.

I think Trumpy Dumpy is the most radical president we have ever had.

We got FDR because the GOP screwed the pooch and currently we desperately need pooch unscrewing to make up for at least 40 years of regressive bullshit that killed the middle class and strangled the American dream. We have the bathtub and our hands on their throats, all that's required now is the balls to finish them.

I truly feel the election is ours as is the choice. I choose to move hard left...My dream ticket is Warren/Buttigieg with Warren to be aspirational and Buttigieg to give a more youthful balance to the ticket and if liberal policies cannot find footing he would be a bridge to the more timid party I do not desire. The thing is if even a bit of Warren caught on I believe Buttigieg would recognize this and take the country as far to the left as we dream of now. IMHO

Have they ever sat in an emergency room all night and into the next morning to see a doctor? Wow I never knew health care was such a ''communist'' radical issue. I guess they realize how stupid this country has become, and how it can be swayed by corporate America.

in terms of my opinions. My point is that Pelosi and Obama don't want the party to have anything on it's platform that could be construed as being ''socialist''. The plan is to bring people to the polls, talk of M4A might seem to some in this country as too ''radical''. I disagree with that stance.

The idea that Sanders' Medicare for All plan is the only health care plan and it is that or nothing is incorrect. Medicare for All is not a new idea and is not "radical" just because Bernie adopted it.

Former vice president Joe Biden is embracing his role as the leading moderate in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary field. He has at times adopted an almost curmudgeonly tone about his opponents’ embrace of more progressive policies, preferring a nostalgia for the way things were back in the good old days of, say, 2015.

It’s an approach that, at first, seems at odds with where the party is going. We’ve noted previously that Democrats are increasingly likely to identify themselves as liberals, a trend that probably helps explain why so many of the 2020 candidates have embraced progressive positions — and why more progressive candidates have entered the race.

Polling, though, suggests that this may not be a foolproof strategy. For one thing, a crowd of more progressive candidates (an admittedly nebulous designation) will compete for the same voters, freeing Biden to vacuum up support from moderates. But polling also shows that Democrats overall aren’t necessarily prioritizing a candidate who espouses progressive policies. The data below are from a recent CNN-SSRS poll: More Democrats think it’s important for a nominee to work with Republicans than to support liberal policies.

Obama's lax guiding hand at the dnc allowed empty seats to be filled by the gop that should of had dems running

but instead they were vacant.

and in many ways it hasn't really improved at the dnc when it comes to building up young and comers

A group of current and former elected Democratic officials in Broward County said Tuesday they’d like to see their party nominate former Vice President Joe Biden for president in 2020.

Their second choice in a straw vote is Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind.

They definitely don’t want either U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts or U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the progressive candidates who are performing near the top of public opinion polls, along with Biden.....

But they believe the Democratic Party’s overriding goal of defeating President Donald Trump can be best achieved by nominating a candidate — like Biden or maybe Buttigieg — who they believe can better to appeal to swing voters in a handful of states that will decide the election.
