Democratic Primaries

The powerhouse California-based farm workers labor group has a long history in progressive politics. Established by liberal organizing icons Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and Gilbert Padilla, the union represents more than 10,000 agricultural workers in California and along the West Coast. The union also has a strong political grassroots presence in the Southwest.
The unions executive board and leadership voted overwhelmingly to endorse Harris, UFW President Teresa Romero said in a statement shared with The Chronicle. The union did hear from other Democratic candidates before making their endorsement.
The union leaders were inspired by her vision of a just and inclusive America, her personal story and the confidence and strength she has shown in the face of attacks from Donald Trump, Romero said.
The farmworkers union is a significant player, with strong support among Latino voters that will be key in the early primary states of Nevada and California, which has moved its primary up to March 3. The union endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016.

(26,697 posts)If she finds some way to climb back into contention nationally... then this is fine.
But if the only result (as seems more likely at this point) is to split CAs primary delegates four ways instead of three? It further endangers the chances of getting a clear nominee out of the process. That means more funds for the general election being spent during the primaries (against each other).

You do know that this is a primary, right? An endorsement of one candidate cant be good for all of us unless that candidate becomes the nominee.
As I said... if its good enough for her that it moves her back into contention, thats one thing (Im not opposing her as the nominee)... If its just good enough to further muddle the California primary (which currently seems to be the most it can do for her)... then it increases the chance of a contested convention. Which is most likely bad for all but Trump.

(4,870 posts)I'm not currently worried about a contested convention and what Harris would do at the time should that happen -- she's a team player and would do the correct thing, especially since the stakes are so high.

(11,495 posts)those who "think" their candidate is the "only" one that can win, and without that person we are "doomed"!
The voters will decide who is the nominee. Whoever the nominee is, we all need to rally around them and support them, because the goal is to beat trump, and I really think Harris can do that, as well as others.

(11,495 posts)I guess some people just can't understand she is more than qualified for the WH, and she is recognized for her accomplishments by groups like the UFW. It's still a long way to go before we have a nominee, and she is still getting my vote!
