Related: About this forumBiden mum on running for second term if elected
Former Vice President Joe Biden in a new interview would not discuss the possibility of running for a second term in the White House if he is elected in 2020.
The Associated Press asked the Democratic candidate if he would promise to serve only one term. Biden responded by saying he would not make that vow.
I feel good and all I can say is, watch me, youll see, Biden said. It doesnt mean I would run a second term. Im not going to make that judgment at this moment.
Biden, 76, also said it's "legitimate" to ask about his age.
Right now its a legitimate question to ask, just like it was legitimate to ask me when I was 29 years old running for the Senate, did I have enough judgment to be a senator, Biden told the AP. Right now, my age has brought with it a significant amount of experience in government and hopefully wisdom and some sound judgment.
Biden would be 81 at the start a second presidential term, while Sanders, who recently suffered a heart attack, would be 82.

(294 posts)Biden's doctors disclosed he suffered from an irregular heartbeat as recently as 2006.

Perhaps you think 1981 is ancient history, but here is what doctors said in 2008 when Biden last released medical records:
The 49 pages of Bidens medical history showed to the media included a report on his treatment following two surgeries for the aneurysms, which caused Biden to take a seven-month leave of absence from the Senate. Though some doctors say the likelihood that Biden will suffer another aneurysm is low, he is supposed to undergo regular examinations for weaknesses in his veins, which doctors say could cause a reoccurrence.

Biden has dealt with chronic asthma and allergies since childhood. He is prescribed Claritin-D and Flonase for the allergies, and he has scheduled sinus surgery in April to help alleviate some of his discomfort.

Two brain surgeries, irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol requiring medication, colon polyp surgery, medicated for an enlarged prostate, sinus surgery, removal of his gall bladder... and that was all before 2008.
This is why I feel there is a risk of unforeseen health issues arising during the General Election and that would be a disaster us.
It's just too big a risk to take on a candidate that will be 77 when running against Trump.

(5,376 posts)I love Bernie, he's a progressive icon and many of his supporters are my friends here on DU, but even I would think the recent heart attack is a huge issue.
And I didn't realize Biden is still being monitored for weak veins that might lead to another brain aneurysm, but that is a huge issue too, along with his other documented health conditions, that would make me very nervous having him running against tRump in 2020.

(5,376 posts)Honestly, you are making claims about me quoting something "precisely" and I am at a lost to understand what in the world you are talking about.
Please, just post here what I "quoted precisely" about your Journal, or anything else for that matter. I never mentioned your Journal before this.
if you don't want me to ask a question about it, fine. I did ask if it was ok, a simple no would have sufficed.

(5,376 posts)Just put up the original quote and then please put up me "quoting it precisely"
That should be easy to do, right?
Are you going to "quote" me amplifying or emphasizing what some one else said and then try to claim that's a "precise quote"?
and what's wrong with quoting someone "precisely" anyway? Do we have to make footnotes and use MLA citation format now or something?
If some one says "I think you mislead people about Sanders" and some one else later says "you mislead people about Sanders" what's wrong with that? We have to use quotation marks or something when echoing what was previously said?
I am at a loss trying to understand what your point is.

Hey, yesterday I referred to a poll as the "Fox News/SSRS poll" when it was actually TWO separate polls... Fox News/Anderson and CNN/SSRS... another DU-er pointed out my mistake and I corrected it and thanked him.
And guess what, that DU-er didn't go on and on and on about my typo/dyslexia or what ever caused THAT mistake.
That said, I think I understand what is going on here now.
I am glad I took the time to get to the bottom of all this. Thank you for the opportunity to have this all made public.

I am really curious to see ALL the candidates medical records to be fair to everyone.
I want to know what medications everyone is on, what surgeries they have had and what conditions they are being monitored for. That seems fair, doesn't it?
And of course Sanders having a recent heart attack is definitely a huge issue.
They should all release them before the year's end, imho.

(37,453 posts)in 1988 more so than now. Since its doesn't say which I will assume based on the recoup time its was probably Triple AAA's. I was monitored for 10 yrs before the Dr's said it was time . They said the longer the wait the better the chance with new techniques. The old days they had to gut you to get to the artery weakness, it took months and rehab to get back to normal. I was on the table for 6 hours. It took a couple of weeks until I was feeling better. I still have to be monitored at least once a year. I had my gall bladder out at 28.

(43,545 posts)Former Vice President Joe Biden, who is looking to become the oldest candidate elected president, said Friday that he wasnt interested in pledging to serve only one term in office.
Biden, who would be 78 on Inauguration Day 2021, said in an interview on ABCs The View that it is fair for voters to ask questions about his age as they weigh his candidacy. Asked if he would only serve a single term if elected, Biden said, "No."
I think its important for peopleits a legitimate question to ask about my age, Biden said in the interview. Hopefully, I can demonstrate that...with age comes wisdom and experience that can make things a lot better. Thats for you all to decide, not for me to decide.

Circumstances on the ground will dictate that decision. I wouldn't want Biden to be elected hamstrung by such a pledge. He may decide to only serve one term but that shouldn't be revealed until it's time.

(13,390 posts)Most people take on fewer responsibilities as they age, because they know the window for being able to fulfill them is shrinking. We have agreed, culturally and via federal policy (social security) that mid 60s is a reasonable time begin to arrange our lives with that in mind. We know for a fact that our bodies change with age. In our later years humans have to make major life adjustments to adapt.
These are universal truths. Ignoring them is naive.
