The Vermont senator gets a big lift at a low point of his campaign.

Bernie Sanders found out he won one of the most prized endorsements in the Democratic Party on one of the worst days of his political career.
As the 78-year-old Sanders laid in a hospital bed in Nevada after a heart attack, with his presidential campaign in jeopardy, his campaign manager Faiz Shakir received a call and passed his phone to the Vermont senator. It was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She told Sanders she was coming aboard his campaign, months before she was expected to issue an endorsement.
Think about the courage of this person who says, You know, I know what you just went through but I have so much trust and confidence in you that you are the one who will fight the fight that I believe in. I'm with you, Shakir told POLITICO after news of the endorsement. To hear that was like, Wow.
Ocasio-Cortezs move came after a months-long courtship that included meetings in Burlington, Vermont late last month between her and Sanders. She was joined by another member of the so-called Squad, Rep. Ilhan Omar, who also informed Sanders of her endorsement on a phone call after his heart attack, according to a source familiar with her decision. A third Squad member, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, is expected to announce soon she is backing Sanders as well, though she said Wednesday she hasn't made an endorsement yet.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib hasn't endorsed Bernie Sanders yet: What she's saying
WASHINGTON The "Squad" doesn't do everything together, it seems.
After multiple media reports Tuesday night and Wednesday morning that U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit, had joined Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in endorsing U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, Tlaib tapped on the brakes.
"I have not made any endorsement at this time," Tlaib said in a statement to the Free Press, adding that she is planning to bring Sanders, the U.S. senator from Vermont, to her Detroit-based district on Oct. 27 for a tour.
Tlaib's office also said that she is not planning to be part of a Sanders rally in New York City this weekend despite reports that she would be. Instead, she is expected to be at a rally of progressives in Lansing.
As they say, oopsie!

(1,898 posts)You and your guy may not prize it but Progressives do. We are accustomed to being called extremists for our platform. I recall how Bernie was labeled an extremist by some in the Midwest when he advocated for a minimum wage of $15 in the 2016 cycle. Now, that policy has passed the United States House of Representatives.
Are a majority of the members of the democratic caucus of the United States House of Representatives extremists? Is Speaker Pelosi an extremist?

Increasing the minimum wage has been a cornerstone of Democratic policy for decades.
When was he labeled "an extremist" in the Midwest, and by whom?

No clue what you are talking about with this most awesome award winning full length documentary. Who is it about and why should that matter to Pressley? She is a Rep from my state and is working hard for us all. I don't need to see her lite up with neon lights on Broadway to know her worth to the people of MA.

(34 posts)Scared, maybe even a bit depressed. And here comes this lovely kid, a freshman Representative powerhouse ready to carry the progressive torch, and she says, "I'm with you all the way."
That's the kind of uplifting story that TV always try to script, but its always full of phoniness and acoustic guitars. This is a real life story of mortality and renewal - I mean, how many people actually get such a moment of validation?
Give em' hell, Bernie!
