The last time AOC endorsed someone in a high profile race...

..it didn't work out too well.

Ask Governor Cynthia Nixon.

Warren or Biden not being bound to AOC is a massive gift to them for the general election.

Cynthia Nixon was a political novice running against an entrenched machine. Sanders is quite different.

Sanders has something else Nixon lacked - the experience of running a YUGE campaign.

I realize that many DUers either dismiss the endorsement by members of The Squad or claim that it's actually a win for Biden and Warren. Berners know better.

As a token of my resolve, I'll send you a copy of the film award-winning documentary, Knock Down The House.

Bernie has 1. 4 million individual donors and 33 million dollars cash on Hand … Had .Warren received AOC's backing, the media would have declared the nomination fight nearly over - and heralded the end of Bernie's campaign ……...She's a Superstar within the Progressive wing of the party. ……

Before this happened, when discussing the 2019Q3 fundraising numbers in which Sanders out raised Biden by $10 million, I used that fact as proof that Sanders' support has not waned. I didn't offer it as proof that he had secured the nomination. Even so, the other DUer used the "fundraising isn't proof" argument. I couldn't help but point out that, had Biden out raised Sanders by $10 million, he would have declared it definitive evidence of Sanders' political demise.

The only way Bernie will shut down all of this snark, including from people who should be thrilled to have him drive the party platform, will be to secure the nomination. It will be difficult to remain patient but Paterfamilias Bernie will be worth it.

Thanks for your kind feedback! Rebutting the torrent of Bernie bashing frays me sometimes.

12. Warren reportedly was hoping for AOC's endorsement:

From Politico last May (a Holly Otterbein story; she's Joe Otterbein's daughter):

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/13/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-bernie-sanders-elizabeth-warren-2020-1318929

Ocasio-Cortez's work on Sanders' 2016 campaign — and the fact that several staffers from that bid went on to work for her and the pro-Ocasio-Cortez group Justice Democrats — suggest the Vermont senator has the inside track for her coveted endorsement. But Sen. Elizabeth Warren is making an aggressive pitch for Ocasio-Cortez's nod, too: She’s met with her privately and wrote a gushing essay about her for Time magazine. An aide to Warren said their teams have been in touch.

“She is excited about both of their campaigns and the ideas they are putting forward,” said Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez. He added that the congresswoman isn't planning to endorse soon.

-snip-

Ocasio-Cortez has spoken positively only about Sanders and Warren when asked about the Democratic field in recent weeks. The competition between Warren and Sanders for her support represents a new front in the delicate cold war between the two for the Democratic Party’s left flank.

Landing Ocasio-Cortez's endorsement would be a coup for Warren; even getting her to hold off on formally backing Sanders might be considered a win. For Sanders, an endorsement from her would symbolize that he was consolidating his grip on the left wing of the party even with Warren, a fellow progressive populist, in the race.

-snip-

Warren, meanwhile, met privately with Ocasio-Cortez in Washington in March. A Warren staffer said “it was a good conversation” and that their staffs have been in contact since then. Warren's team also sat down with Shahid.

And last month, Warren penned a flattering article about Ocasio-Cortez for Time’s list of 100 most influential people, saying the congresswoman “fought back against a rigged system and emerged as a fearless leader in a movement committed to demonstrating what an economy, a planet and a government that works for everyone should look like.” Ocasio-Cortez has endorsed Warren’s plan to break up big tech companies and has cosponsored several of the senator's bills.

He has a substantial and loyal following, and he shrinks the electorate by staying in the race, but I don't think his support will grow. He's a known quantity.
