Working Families organizer told 'I'm so happy you were raped'

Working Families Party Staffers Face Harassment After Warren Endorsement
https://time.com/5681261/working-families-party-harrassment/

(snip) WFP organizer Ember Ollom, a rape survivor who has tweeted about her assault, received a message that said: “We were raped by this process, so I’m happy it happened to you.” When Ollom tweeted about the harassment, more people responded to tell her she was lying.

Staffers also received messages and tweets that vowed to “hunt all WFP down” and said “may you all get cancer.” One staffer received a threat that someone would find where she lived.

The backlash began after the party, which has an organizing presence in 20 states and is on the ballot in three, endorsed Warren’s 2020 bid on Monday after endorsing Sanders in 2016. The endorsement, one of the first from a progressive group, was seen a triumph for Warren and a setback for Sanders, who has praised the Working Families Party as an example of “my vision of Democratic socialism.”

In the days since, WFP staffers were inundated with messages calling them “liberal sellouts,” “corporate frauds,” and “just as corrupt as the DNC,” often accompanied with the hashtag #BernieorBust. It was not immediately clear how many of the messages were sent by real people, how many were sent by right-wing agitators, or how many were sent by bots.

“I do not personally think that Bernie Sanders would condone this behavior,” says Ollom. “It’s not all Bernie supporters, but people are doing this in his name. A lot of people have their picture as his profile picture. When it seems to come from a collection of people speaking on behalf of this candidate, it definitely looks bad.”

In response to requests from TIME, Sanders’ campaign declined to offer further comment.

In 2016 the Sanders Campaign excuse, for the most vile attacks on HRC and her supporters, was -it's nothing to do with us - just RW trolls and troublemakers. That was, until the Convention, when BS delegates were saying the same thing in person, as they were online.

It's typically white, privileged assholes who are perfectly okay letting everything burn to make a political point. Why? Because it's not their lives impacted. These assholes are no better than the Republicans. I don't want to see their tears toward children being locked in cages and refugees being denied entry into the United States. They clearly didn't care enough about 'em to put their petty political bullshit aside to vote for the right candidate.

And it's why People of Color do not support Bernie.

This is so true, but I never realized the reason behind their attitude before.

I think some of them (perhaps I'm naive) would change if this were pointed out to them. I think a lot of them think they're just doing what people living in a democracy should be able to do--to vote for their preferred candidate--and would be willing to reconsider if they realized that some things are more important than their right to vote however they wish.

Not a lot, perhaps, but some, because I've known a few of them personally. They aren't assholes, they just grew up being told that we're the greatest democracy in the world blah blah blah and every vote counts equally so voting is your chance to have your say, and haven't realized that the times and the stakes have changed.

Although, it that video did make me laugh at the way they poked fun of them, but then I remembered what they helped give us. :/

Gotta follow where this stuff is coming from, though. Isn't there a documentary on netflix about Cambridge Analytica that discusses one of their campaigns in some other country in which they convinced a large segment of the citizens to simply not turn out to vote? This stuff reeks of those same tactics, and I can't help but feel these people are just being sucked into it. Which is why I am really leery of the racist/sexist social media posts supposedly coming from Sander supporters. Yes, it's possible some are real, but I we really have to be vigilant to make sure we too don't become sucked into similar traps ourselves.

Well, here we go again in living color. The vile, sexist spew is on the march again. And this time, the evidence is right out in the open.

The difference? This is the Left eating its own. But the hateful vibes? Same old, same old.

Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis gets heckled by angry protesters during DNC interview

Given congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis' legacy as a staunch progressive—one whose entire public life has been dedicated to giving voice to the marginalized and oppressed—it's surprising, then, to hear him heckled so vociferously by angry protesters during an on-air interview about his party's historic nomination of Hillary Clinton, the first female major party presidential candidate in United States history.

Speaking with MSNBC's Tamron Hall outside the Democratic National Convention on Thursday morning, Lewis was interrupted multiple times with shouts of "bullshit" and "she stole it" as he praised his party for selecting Clinton as their standard-bearer.

"You know, we have elected a person of color for two terms. He broke barriers, President Barack Obama did in his way," Lewis told Hall. "And tonight, this night, we're going to nominate a woman.

From the crowd assembled to watch the segment being filmed, a woman can be heard angrily shouting "she stole it!" as Lewis pauses, appearing momentarily flustered by the interruption, before describing Clinton's nomination as "the end of another long struggle in America."

Several more people can then be heard joining the chant of "she stole it," with one punctuating their protestations with "never Hillary!"

"Her nomination is going to inspire young women, young girls, young men, all over America and all over the world," Lewis goes on to explain to Hall. "I've said it a few years ago—"

"Bullshit!" someone can be heard yelling from the crowd, Lewis appearing to suppress a chuckle.
