Elizabeth Warren Is the Teacher All the Students Hope to Get in the Fall
The happy warrior goes to the Iowa State Fair.

But the thing that's sold Elizabeth Warren to Iowa is primarily Elizabeth Warren. None of the candidates seems to be having as much fun as she is. The endless selfies after speeches. The pinky-swears with young girls about how what girls do is run for president. Her willingness to hold town halls anywhere. That loose-limbed, almost goofy wave with which she steps onto every stage. In a gloomy political time, with a humorless sociopathic bully in the White House, and with all the worst impulses of the national Id come out to play, Senator Professor Warren is the campaign's happy warrior, the teacher everybody hopes they get when school starts up again in the fall. People respond to the good feeling around her campaign as much as they respond to the blizzard of policy proposals that campaign has loosed upon the electorate.
..........
Odd to me that some Democrats are now claiming she has a strict teacher persona who would punish you for being late to class. Odd. One would think that Dems would be happy to have such a smart, engaging, and energetic candidate with a GREAT campaign organization. Having a great campaign organization is an extremely important asset for a general election, too.

(2,855 posts)and brilliant set of polices that are -- importantly --- based on and grown from authentic and progressive values.
If you planted a seed called "progressive DNA" and it grew into a mighty tree --- that's her campaign.

(113,008 posts)She became a noted expert on the financial realities of the average American family.
Not a glamorous choice, but, my gosh, it will be a huge boon to speaking to workers of all kinds, especially those who are struggling all over, including working families in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc...
She uses the language of common sense.

I remember a post here on DU that listed the names of the Democrats that voted for it. The title of the OP was: People who will never be president.
It's true, but some folks want to make someone on that list our nominee.

(2,689 posts)But he was one then. Later was a sort-of Senator who, had it been necessary, could have broken a tie vote in the Senate. (Hint, hint)
But also, lest we all forget, Hillary did the same damned thing, only in 2001! She voted down a bill that would have eased the path to filing for bankruptcy for people who were being crushed by heavy (up to 39% interest!) credit card debt. Oh, and I will never forget that she also gave Bush the authority to start the maniacal, greed inspired invasion of Iraq that led to so much of the hellish mess we're in today.
(Yes, case you're wondering, I lost most of my respect for her when she voted to give free rein to the forces of evil and greed. But, also yes, I voted for her in 2016 because, given the dirtbag of an opponent she had in that election, there really was no other choice.) (Slight correction: none of the faux-Americans competing against the billionaire rapist in that election would have made me vote any differently. It's amazing to recall the absolute dearth of human talent and integrity on that stage among the 15 or so Republicans running against Trump. Maybe Kasich wasn't a shallow, empty-souled greed-pig as were all of the others -- but I still would have voted for Hillary, over any of them.)
I always thought that had she not, in 2001, voted for the forces of greed and financial oppression and had she stood up, later, to the sick war mongering of President Cheney/Bush, she would have been a shoo-in for the 2008 nomination and won handily in the general election against McCain and Dumbass. I think she must spend some time each year wondering what might have been if she had only made the right choices in those instances -- especially the latter.
(Also, if the "former Senator" does manage to win the nomination, I'll vote for him and even be happy when he wins. Because anyone who doesn't vote for the Democratic nominee is, ipso facto, voting for Trump.)

(14,272 posts)Not to detract from Senator Warren because she is definitely glowing on the trail. But Andrew Yang is approaching his candidacy with zest and appears to be having a blast. He may not be garnering the crowds she is, but I am not seeing her crowd surfing like Mr. Yang.

(2,689 posts)No, not as a presidential candidate, but as a very interesting, creative, intelligent political presence. When President Warren is elected -- and I really think that with the "Pocohantas" smear as the absolute best the RW can do to hurt her, she'll be a shoo-in -- I hope she lures him into her administration in some capacity, maybe after discussing the matter with her Vice President, Mayor Pete!
(It's interesting that, looking at the array of potential candidates vying for the Democratic nomination, you see soooo many talented, intelligent, decent people. Compare our batch of candidates to that gaggle of vacillating, unprincipled cowards who stood on the Republican stage when the Grand Old Party vomited up Donald Trump as its nominee. Good god! Mike Huckabee? Rick Santorum? Ben Carson? Ted Cruz? Only Kasich seemed, after all, to be a man of some principles, albeit Republican principles, sincerely held. Thinking about it, he would have made the campaign much more intellectually interesting and stimulating had the Party of Putin managed to put him in the contest against Mrs. Clinton. Hillary, of course, would have won, but it would have been a contest of adults aimed at an adult audience.)
