Bernie Sanders is the first 2020 candidate to pick up an endorsement from a member of Congress who is not from their home state.
Ro Khanna, D-Calif., announced Thursday that he is backing the Vermont independent to be the next president. The endorsement is not a surprising one Khana tweeted in July of 2017 that Sanders should absolutely run again in 2020!
Khanna took to the Twittersphere on Thursday to reiterate that early endorsement.
Bernie has spent his career fighting for working people and standing up to corporations and special interests, Khanna said. He has the grassroots energy and the vision to inspire voters across America.

(8,678 posts)Khanna, who was one of only nine Democratic House members to endorse Sanders over Hillary Clinton in 2016, was named Thursday as one of the national co-chairs of the senators run for the 2020 Democratic nomination. Joining him are former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner; Carmen Yulín Cruz, mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerrys ice cream.

I wonder if a ballsy journalist will ask him what it's like to coordinate a campaign for the Democratic nomination alongside a Jill Stein supporter.
Note to Rep. Khanna:
Don't bring donuts to the meetings!

(42,862 posts)Is this an endorsement that benefits the endorser or the endorsee? All I'm saying is that endorsements typically mean more, and carry more weight and influence, when the person doing the endorsing brings some widely-held respect, or broad-based name-recognition to the table. In the case of a relatively unknown endorsing someone who's widely known... I personally think that benefits the lesser of the two parties, and provides little or no political value to the more "famous" of the two.
