MANCHESTER, N.H. Some of Bernie Sanders fiercest supporters are sounding the alarm that the campaign is bogged down by disorganization, personality clashes, and poor communication between state operations and national headquarters.
After a pair of setbacks this week the acrimonious shakeup of his staff in New Hampshire on Sunday and loss of the Working Families Party's endorsement to Elizabeth Warren a day later Sanders allies and former aides are worried that recent disappointments are not one-off stumbles but rather emblematic of larger problems in his bid for the White House. The concerns are particularly acute in New Hampshire.
Seeing the campaign not be able to outshine Warren with WFP progressives doesnt have me questioning WFPs process, said Rafael Shimunov, a former national creative director for WFP and 2016 Sanders volunteer. It has me questioning where the Bernie campaign could have done better, because I want to make sure the strongest candidate unmasks Biden and unseats Trump.
The worries come as the campaign enters a critical, more urgent phase. After Labor Day, more voters typically tune into the election and begin to make up their minds. Expectations for Sanders are sky-high, especially in New Hampshire, where he defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 by 22 percentage points.
But Warren has jumped in the national polls to tie Sanders for second place, and Joe Biden has proven harder to knock off his first-place perch than his rivals expected.

(1,898 posts)The 2016 endorsement of Bernie by WFP barely moved the needle. Should he have worked harder to pursue the 2020 endorsement? I say no. At the local, state and congressional level, WFP is a powerhouse which continues to garner my full respect. As for nominating a presidential candidate, WFP amounted to a nothingburger last time. I doubt 2020 will differ in the slightest.
Every few weeks, some story hits the wires about disarray at Sanders HQ. Whenever I watch the official communications, I see the opposite. I see a well oiled machine firing on all cylinders.
To Bernie supporters, I reply, "Don't fret, organize!"

From the very beginning there was clear and fundamental disagreement between Mr. Caiazzo and myself on how to run a successful presidential primary campaign in New Hampshire, Ehrenberg said on Sunday.

(18,040 posts)might best be described as moot.
The fact that there has been a shakeup in the BS campaign is not a moot point. It is a fact.
1. subject to debate, dispute, or uncertainty.
2. having little or no practical relevance, typically because the subject is too uncertain to allow a decision.

(25,134 posts)I'm looking forward to next week's "Bern Notice" after Biden attends a swanky "elite fundraiser" in Hollywood. The hosts are the CEO of an investment management firm, an advisor to Comcast, and the founding director of UCLA Hispanic Neuropsychiatric Center of Excellence. Obviously this means Biden is in the pocket of Wall Street and the corporate media conglomerate, but what exciting conspiracy theory will Sirota dream up about how Biden is corrupted by the Neuropsychiatric Center of Excellence? Can't wait for moar unmasking!

Btw, anyone who's ever read about radical-leaning groups knows they tend to eventually self destruct. Those differences with the left's mainstream that they always insist are insurmountable have their counterparts of insurmountable micro differences quarreled over within the groups. That's why in spite of their passionate conviction of superiority there's no national, far left political party; it's not that they haven't been formed, it's that they've always imploded.

(17,378 posts)Bernie got a free pass in 2016, since Hillary was reluctant to take him on, since she was the front runner, and the media was doing its best to sell a horse race. This time around, Bernie was considered the front runner, but he lost his momentum when people grew tired of his angry 24/7 routine. Unlike 2016, Bernie was considered the main front runner, but he squandered this advantage.

Amid a swirl of speculation about Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, and practically everyone else under the sun as potential Democratic presidential contenders, most of the political class is ignoring the elephant in the room. Bernie Sanders is, by some measures the most popular politician in America, by far Democrats most in-demand public speaker, and the most prolific grassroots fundraiser in American history.
If he were 10 or 20 years younger, his absence from a 2020 cattle call held by the Center for American Progress back in May would have been glaring. As things stood, the whisper among everyone in the halls was simply that hes too old and obviously wont run.
But make no mistake: Sanders is the real 2020 Democratic frontrunner.
Hes doing exactly what a candidate who fell short needs to do to run a second time. Hes established a national political organization, hes improved his ties with colleagues on Capitol Hill, hes maintained a heavy presence in national media, and hes traveling the country talking about issues.
