tRump rally pushed Bishop over the edge...

Last edited Wed Sep 11, 2019, 10:11 PM - Edit history (1)

I'm sick of hearing this all day long! I highly doubt tRump's rally helped Bishop. That being said tRump seems to get endless press because of his rallies. It seems like it is amounting to millions in free press coverage. What if anything can our eventual nominee do to counter the rallies? It would be nice to match the free coverage instead of having to pay for it. Its a huge advantage. The media will do anything for ratings these days. It sickens me.

1. Well, first the media has to stop covering rallies as if they were rock concerts.

We'd all be a lot better served if they'd go more in depth on the candidates, and if they'd pay more attention to more intimate events that tell more about the candidates anyway.

2. It is a heavily red district and Bishop would have won anyway

Trump's rallies have not helped in other places at all - not in Alabama, not in PA, not in Ohio, not in West Virginia.

In swing districts, the rallies make Democrats come out in large numbers -- they help us and McCreedy lost by 7 in a +12 red district so we picked up 5%.

7. Exactly. Dem turnout was way down from 2018. You can't win if you don't play.

New poll shows voter enthusiasm for 2020 is higher among Republicans.

9. On CNN today. Enthusiasm up for both parties, but higher for Republicans.

Of course, there is a question of just how many Republicans there are, compared to Democrats and Independents. As usual, raw numbers were not revealed, just percentages. Personally, I think the stories of Republicans fleeing the party are overblown, but a lot of the hardcore conservatives must be dying out. Unfortunately, the oldest demographic is the most reliable voter, along with the fundamentalist religious voter.

10. The district is poor, massively republican and rural.

What we know now is that republicans don't do well in economically vibrant locations or big surburbs.
