(23,094 posts)Every day she shows us more why she'll be formidable on the campaign trail. WE have an abundance of good people running to replace drumpf and I couldn't be more happy. Just hoping Joe will throw his hat in the ring too. Bring on the primaries and debates!!

(28,817 posts)I feel sad and sorry about Jussie.
Honestly, I dont think he setback anything.
The majority of Americans are on right side of LGBT rights and acceptance.
This is just a media blitze that should have been devoted to the Coast Guard guy being an open skinhead while in service. But as usual the white guy is downplayed and a sad, unbalanced double minority is exploited.
Its all very sad to me.

(4,131 posts)But I dont think mental health has anything to do with the Smollet case. He wanted to get paid, wanted exposure, wanted more fame. He saw an opportunity, concocted a scheme, executed it, and then tried to milk it for all it was worth. He tried to profit on the very real suffering of the black and LGBT community whom he is supposed to be a role model. He knew exactly what he was doing and he is now going to have to face the consequences.
Senator Harris response was perfect.

Guess that's one way to stay out of trouble.....

(37,648 posts)First with Franken. Then with Northam. Now with Smollett. Hopefully she now knows to wait, let the dust settle, and get all the facts before declaring or demanding things. She's trying to backtrack, but it's out there already.

(14,565 posts)It may be well stated but the masses will never read it or care about it. If Kamala Harris becomes the nominee then her "modern day lynching" remark will be front and center. There is no way to pull it back. Trump would mock it on the stump and there would be related commercials. Trump's nickname for her might be related to it.
Anyone who doubts that can merely check the forums where right wingers post. They are calling Smollett the defining story of the Trump years. They are not going to let it go merely because the calendar turns 2020. Hanging around liberal sites all day is not going to allow a full situational grasp. Fortunately for me I can get the full sampling merely by going to my normal sports sites. They are dominated by right wingers.
I like everything about Kamala except her instincts. Her senate questioning is extremely overrated because she often has a scripted path and fails to adjust when the response should lead her elsewhere. I noted that a long time ago and it was the first thing that led me to understand she has weak instincts on the fly. None of the other examples are surprising in the least, given that flaw. I don't believe it is fixable through dust settling. You have it or you don't. Often an immediate response is necessary, particularly during a fall campaign with the entire world fixated on two people and everything they say and do. Our nominee can't afford to get it wrong.

(85,989 posts)...right-wing trash are the only ones really obsessing on her initial reaction, a response which I appreciate more than all of the slick political nonsense which substitutes this kind of garbage take for actual issues that people actually care about.
Remember what they're protecting. Their defenses are part of their belief that calling out racism and bigotry is more offensive than the offensive acts themselves. It's not something that people actually concerned with increasing incidents of racial violence spend a moment participating in.

If you want to condemn Kamala Harris for speaking out forcefully, then do that, but don't believe it's some big deal that these morons have come forward AFTER the claims are disproved. It's a tell, for fucks sakes that they're howling, revealing their desperate desire to turn the spotlight off of ACTUAL OFFENSES, off of their ACTUAL RACISM, relieved this wasn't yet another in an increasingly long string of white supremacist acts of violence.
Spend your time on that, and leave this nonsense to right wing trash who have nothing better to work with as they try to sell their traitor president to the American public.

(11,804 posts)...absolutely pitch perfect. Nice work. She probably wrote it in about 45 seconds. I get the sense this comes easy to her, and it is reassuring because this should be easy. Meanwhile, a Coast Guard LT was caught planning to lay waste to anything and everything liberal and/or progressive, and Individual 1 can't muster the stones to get on his "beautiful Twitter" and say something condemning it.
