Seth Moulton Ends 2020 Presidential Campaign With a Warning

Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts is dropping out of the presidential race, ending a candidacy that emphasized Mr. Moulton’s centrist politics and military service but gained no traction with Democratic primary voters.

Mr. Moulton, 40, said in an interview that he had no immediate plans to endorse another candidate, but he warmly praised former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Mr. Moulton planned to announce the end of his campaign in a formal speech before the Democratic National Committee on Friday.

Mr. Moulton suggested that most of the other Democratic candidates were also laboring in vain at this point, with only a tiny few — Mr. Biden and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders — remaining as real competitors for the nomination. He warned in the interview that if Democrats were to embrace an overly liberal platform, it could make it harder for the party to defeat President Trump.

“I think it’s evident that this is now a three-way race between Biden, Warren and Sanders, and really it’s a debate about how far left the party should go,” Mr. Moulton said.

1. If he couldn't gain traction as a centrist maybe it's time to make a hard left turn in this country.

The correct term is "progressive" and not liberal.

The latter has a distinct meaning and it does not include eliminating all private primary health insurance.

7. It probably is a 3 way race but he has the wrong 3

I think it is Biden Warren and Harris with Steyer due to money having an outside chance. Sanders has near universal name recognition and is showing no signs of gaining support while both Harris and Warren have increased support (Warren more so that Harris) and Harris is the most likely to see black voters in the South flip for her if she does well in early contests.

I agree - it’s a 3 way race for the Naomi action between Biden, Warren and Harris.

At 40 years old, he has a long career ahead of him. He wasn't going to win anyway. It is better for him to stay in Massachusetts as a congressman.

I almost never heard of Moulton, but really have no use for centrists who ignore how far to the right we've been pushed since Reagan at least.

Such a surprise, too, that what being one of 27 conservative blue dogs among 235 house Democrats says about Democrats didn't help him more. Or that leading the attack on women in power in the supposed Year of the Women wasn't a winning move. He may have been inspired by but clearly learned nothing from ex-senator Jim Webb's dead-at-inception misogynistic white men's strategy.

Btw, Webb isn't actually dead for anyone who hasn't checked lately. He was sucking up to Trump several months ago in hopes of becoming secretary of defense, supposedly a front-runner and a favorite with the MAGA crowd and people like Laura Ingraham, but that didn't work out for him either.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
