Who Has the Best Chance in 2020

If we had to had a head to head battle with the other side today who would we want as our selection to win and why would they appeal to the masses of voters over one of our other democratic candidates?

Of the announced candidates, I'd have to go with Senator Harris. Senators Warren and Sanders have similar name recognition, but I give the edge to Harris since she's from a larger state.

If Biden were announced, I'd go with him to be most likely to beat Trump.

Fortunately, we have some time to get others introduced to the electorate. I think most of the camdidate can get to the level of being able to plausibly beat Trump after people learn more. At the same time, there are one or two that I think are plausible now but who wont be as time goes on on. They will wear thin with voters.

that, regardless of how wonderful Joe is, it is time for a woman president! It is past time, in fact. I would hope that Joe would see this and throw his support wholeheartedly behind a woman candidate and would campaign his heart out for her.

We keep saying "It's time for a woman" and then get told "yeah, but on the other hand here's Joe!"

There are many women out there who will feel a certain deflation of enthusiasm if he runs. Of course, we will support him here in the Dem Party. But in our hearts, we have certainly not won what we so fervently wanted and what was taken from us in 2016: Madame President.

Many Democrats could win the popular vote.

But only one Democrat in my estimation has a virtual lock on winning in the Electoral College.

That's why I'm supporting Joe Biden. I love many of our candidates including Cory, Kamala, Elizabeth, and Amy.

But Joe Biden is far and away the best hope we have for defeating Trump.

Joe Biden would have the best chance. Of course, he has to decide to jump in or not.

Biden is a trusted figure, beloved in many circles. He has the ear of the Unions and working class voters. He also has the legacy of the Obama brotherhood/bromance behind him. And of all of these candidates, he has foreign policy chops.

He's certainly not without faults or baggage but I think he'd overcome them. Moreover, he could and would go eye-to-eye with the Trumpster. I don't see Biden losing a verbal assault to Trump's classless comments.

So right now? Biden would be my selection for sheer electability.

12. I made a spreadsheet of 4 categories
Fri Feb 22, 2019, 04:21 PM
Feb 2019

Policies, Base, Negative, and Guts. These are my own categories and my own estimate of how Democratic voters will feel. Each cell on the spreadsheet was allowed up to 3 points. (The Negative category goes down to -3 possible.)

A spreadsheet can help identify my own biases and / or lack of knowledge.

To be fair, we need our lesser known candidates to step forward. This especially means Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hickenlooper, John Delaney, Andrew Yang, Julian Castro, Sherrod Brown and Pete Buttigieg.

Setting the bar even 1 notch higher means that ALL of the candidates have to do a better job of campaigning. Mainstream media is destined to be against all the candidates until one is left standing. And even then, who knows.

Finally, my spreadsheets current leaders are in order: Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Beto O'Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Kirsten Gillibrand.

I'm sure that DU members from various areas can chime in to clarify their area's candidates. This is my 2 cents before the weekend.

Many of the candidates lack credibility in foreign policy.

I gave 1-2-3 points to those who are in the Senate and to Beto O'Rourke. Joe Biden got 3. The others received 0 or 1.

The negative category is the dark side. How well will Putin, and the Right Wing machine be able to take away votes.

The guts category is multi-faceted. One: how well will this candidate destroy Trump's organization/rhetoric during the campaign. Two: how well I they can build a new administration that can get things done.

primary today, I would vote for:

We can discuss this and that, and I personally wish the election were next month. or say next November. That is not the way it goes. So much can happen between now and November 2020. I enjoy talking about it, but that is today's pleasure. In looking that events that can happen in the future, Sargent Shultz has it correct, "I know nothing."
..An example that I am not proud of, but that is OK. A young, very bright Afro-American U.S. Senator from Illinois declared his desire to be President of the U.S.A. about 12 years ago. Yes it was February 2007. Now I am from Illinois, and voted for the man, but to be honest, I didn't think that Obama had one chance in a million to get to the top job. I was totally wrong, but that is OK. Being wrong on that one is a "gift." Who knows what the future will bring..................The Shadow Knows....

...........oh no, so many don't know that reference, who or what was "The Shadow"...time to
