I'm dreaming of a Warren/Buttigieg ticket. That would be a winner in my eyes.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

or is it a race to see how far to the left the party can be pushed because we think that anybody we nominate along with any promises they make will beat Trump?

I don't call proposing practical and workable ideas based in reality as being spineless.
It makes for a good soundbite thought.

But when these candidates are all done running for the nomination within the Democratic Party the winner will need to run against Trump in the general election in the entire nation. Too many on the left, particularly the far left that so often likes to disparage and put down those in the party less liberal than they are, like to look in the mirror and believe they see the nation reflected back at them and there is just no way they could lose.
There is.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

with a vast majority of people in this country, Republicans included.

Their policies only seem far out compared to the Washington DC Wisdom that holds that government must never be used to improve people's lives.

So go as far left as possible with those hugely popular policies.

I offer with earnestness. That really is the way to win, and win big, and keep winning.

FDR was so popular they had to change the constitution to keep anyone from winning by offering just his kind of "far left" New Deal policies (that saved America, by the way).

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

if you start negotiations from the bare minimum you could accept, you'll end up with nothing you want.

And I'm tired of hearing that asking for what every other first world country has had for years is so "far left". Yes, basic human rights are so "far left" or so I hear these days.

You stated it way better than I did though:

Their policies only seem far out compared to the Washington DC Wisdom that holds that government must never be used to improve people's lives.
