Sanders makes 'last-minute' appearance at union rally with Warren

Warren confirmed her attendance well before the rally at Reagan National Airport, as she continues to vie for the progressive wing of the party. In press materials sent out Monday morning, she was the headliner and no other candidates were listed as attending.

“Bernie was very last-minute,” said Sara Nelson, the president of the Association of Flight Attendants, who had the crowd roaring in her own speech Tuesday night. “There was no plan for Bernie to be here. I can show you the lineup I had yesterday, and he wasn’t on it.”

The Sanders campaign has been roiled over the past week as internal union disputes with their own staffers over wages spilled into the open. The public sniping threatens Sanders’ labor-centric candidacy.

While the Sanders campaign and its workers announced a resolution earlier on Tuesday, the fallout clearly bothered the presidential aspirant. He told the Des Moines Register on Friday that going to the media “is really not what labor negotiations are about, and it’s improper.” Sanders did not mention the strife in his short speech on Tuesday evening, but some organizers suggested that his appearance was connected to the conflict and his not wanting to cede the stage to Warren.

Warren has a shadow. Sounds about right.

He is a welcome guest by the rank and file. That said, he isn’t a headliner anymore when someone like Warren is around. She is the real deal.

Elizabeth felt about that?

Oh look.. de Blasio came last minute, too..

City Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York, a fellow presidential candidate, also made a last-minute appearance at the rally on Tuesday and made his own pitch to be the progressive standard-bearer. While the audience appreciated his tough criticism of the airlines, he lost some of the crowd when he made an unwieldy pitch for his latest campaign proposal.

Elizabeth is a better speaker, going beyond BS slogans and vitriol, into the specifics of the dispute and how she can support them. I first heard of this about the SEUI Vegas event in April - she can connect with the rank and file -

"One woman, who voted for Sanders in the 2016 primary and works for the Service Employees Union in Minnesota (said) earlier in the day that she wasn't sure someone like Warren had the charisma to take back the White House. As she left the venue, she had done a 180.

"I still have goosebumps," she said, right before taking out a cigarette."

at the rally well before it was held. Slip ups often are caused by poor organization. Warren has not made a slip up yet (other than the DNA thing, but that one was forgivable). Bernie seems to have a slip up each week.

"the people," any more than a red light means people should walk. I think more are catching on, though.

When I was a kid without the internet, based on who I saw acting out then, I thought the word just referred to the kind of lazy, irresponsible, uncaring, and ignorant people who for years ignored developing problems, especially the troubles of others, and then very belatedly leaped to angrily blame some amorphous "the establishment" when their own problems finally got too pointy to ignore. Was actually partially right as far as that leg-of-elephant view went, but it was 30 years later when it started up again that I finally learned that view missed some very important aspects.

the organizers hadn't specifically excluded him, only to have him show up out of nowhere, push through the crowd, boorishly interrupt and push aside the speaker and teen organizers on the stage -- with his own portable megaphone! -- get his photo op in front of national cameras as if he was part of it, and then leave.

very admirable student organizers was shocking. People just don't do that.

But Sanders is one of a kind; all must be forgiven great men who won't let little men, or women, stop them. Heard those included Stephanie Ruhl on her program this week.

I believe that last one -- clearly in his way but somewhat less than appreciative of his greatness -- has to be 80s-ish Senator Feinstein. She was wearing her hair like that around then.

They were very specific and explicit in expressing their wishes. This was "their moment" to shine and to be in the spotlight... to make THEIR voices heard. It was very disrespectful for someone to show up with their own megaphone and to drown them out.

It was appalling. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, but then I realized otherwise for obvious reasons.
