Biden says if Trump mocks his age or mental state he'd challenge him to a push-up contest

WASHINGTON – When asked what he would do if President Donald Trump challenged him based on his age or mental fitness in a debate, former Vice President Joe Biden said he would challenge the president to a push-up contest.

Biden made the comment during an interview with MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski that aired Monday on "Morning Joe." Brzezinski asked Biden about Democratic voters who wondered how he would handle someone like Trump, "who doesn't play fair," after he seemed unprepared for criticism from Sen. Kamala Harris in the Democratic debate in Miami.

"I realize that some have concluded that because I didn't respond very tough back to her, that how can I take on Trump? I've never had any trouble taking on anyone from Trump to Putin to Xi Jinping or anybody else," he said.

"I'm used to bullies," Biden added. He cited a line from former President Harry Truman, which he said his "grandpop" used to quote. When asked if he was going to "give 'em hell," Truman said, "No, I'm just going to tell them the truth. They're going to think it's hell."

If trump starts on his lying gaslit insults to Joe Biden.. then challenging him to put up or shut up might be a way to stop that.

This isn't about "machismo", imo. It's about stopping trump's insults about Biden's age and the insult he throws at him.. "sleepy".

A man just shouted "Sleepy Joe" at Biden, Biden ran up to him and asked him to race...

I totally understand why Biden would want to do that.. as someone posted in this thread.. one way deal with trump is "ridicule".

I prefer that candidates don't lower themselves to his level, as Michelle Obama once so eloquently said. Ignoring the taunts of a bully is more effective than getting down in the mud with them.

If the men start responding to Donnie's insults with feats of strength challenges, how should the woman candidates respond?

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

But I’m thinking he reads trump better than most.

Because a push-up or sprint contest would scare trump. He would lose and he knows it. And would would weak to his knuckle dragging base if after he attacked Biden for being feeble he looked scared to compete with him. Which is why I don’t there will be a single debate.

So if Biden drops a few more of these ‘tongue in cheek’ comments we may have someone who is actually calling the song for trump for a change.

The key to beating trump is not just outrage, but ridicule as well.

… I think this kind of talk I stupid. However, if it works with the desired voters, so be it... Biden would surely win the "push-up" contest" with Trump. He could also ask Crooked Donald to jog with him. If I were older than my opponent and were facing questions about my age, I might say things like this... the game is to win. You do and say what you need to do, to win. Biden needs to watch out for one of his younger opponents to issue the same challenge... Booker could challenge Biden. At least, they won't be discussing their penis size, like Trump and Rubio...

37. Joe Biden's childhood struggle with a stutter: How he overcame it and how it shaped him
Mon Sep 16, 2019, 06:25 PM
Sep 2019

Joe is very well equipped to take on trump the bully

Valerie Biden Owens, the former vice president’s younger sister, says that one lasting impact of his childhood stutter is that it has given him more empathy and compassion for others’ trials, and it uniquely equips him to handle Trump’s taunts.

“Trump is a bully, and Joe has been standing up to bullies his entire life,” Owens said in an interview. “Joe’s stuttering, I think, is one of the principal reasons — a major, major, major reason — that he is the good and compassionate and kind man that he is.”

About 3 million Americans suffer from the speech impediment of stuttering, marked by involuntary repetition of sounds, syllables or words. According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, most children outgrow their stutter, but for 25% of them, stuttering is a lifelong challenge.

Biden has overcome the serious stutter of his youth, but remnants of it resurface on occasions such as when he is very tired, he said in a 2016 speech. Experts on stuttering who follow him closely say they have noticed it on several occasions during the campaign, such as an interview on “The View” when he addressed complaints about his tendency to touch and hug women while campaigning, and an April speech in Pittsburgh launching his campaign, when he struggled with words.
