Some guy on tv just said ranked choice in primary

With all these candidates in the Democratic primary we should have ranked choice voting. Just the top 5 picks.
Sounds like something that would be interesting here.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

Yes ranked choice (or similar) is good in situations when you have lots of similar candidates. n/t PoliticAverse Jun 2019 #1

RCV is a tool to come up with ONE winning candidate in ONE election. Since each State Primary is intended to distribute delegates proportionally, RCV would effectively shift us to a Winner-Take-All system.

for the 2020 primaries. Elections are run by the individual states, each of which decides how to run them. In some states, ranked choice voting is being tried, or is in use, but it's not likely to be implemented before the 2020 primaries by the states. Election planning is already underway for those primary elections. Changing how elections are handled requires state legislatures to pass laws. Ranked choice voting remains a controversial issue, and implementation is slow, even in states that have tried it in local elections.

So, don't expect ranked choice primaries next year.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
