An objective poll might ask if a Democratic candidate should apologize for defending working with segregationists, in the name of civility.

You know, without names, so that you don't get knee-jerk reactions from haters of one or lovers of the other.

It is kind of like the way progressive policies are wildly popular when polled...if you don't attach the word "Democratic" or "soshulist" to them.

It shows Bernie doesn't really value black people - he only uses them as props to make people think his campaign is diverse.

Having lived in Vermont, Senator BS can never relate to anything that has to do with segregation.

There is one clue however, when the segregation battle was on, he ran away from diverse Brooklyn to the 99% white Vermont.

Besides, the only reason he is polling this high is because he was leading in the polls BEFORE he even entered the race due to name recognition only and having the luxury of riding Obama's coat tails, and hardly anyone in this country had even heard of so many of our other candidates at that time. Then when he finally announced, his numbers remained high only because people jumped on the Poll Bandwagon because they still weren't familiar with the others. Joe's poll numbers will be entering into a free fall soon enough, which will be a good thing for us because he is the candidate most likely to lose to Trump, IMO.

Much of Hillary's baggage wasn't even real. It was due to the Right Wing slandering her with outlandish lies for decades. Biden's baggage is real. It was brought upon by himself. His vote for he Iraq War, his Crime Bill of 1994, his handling of Anita Hill, touchy feely issues with women and girls, and he's a walking gaffe machine. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

political appologies are a dime a dozen and I don't take them seriously. I don't know why it matters to argue about it. I consider the facts, consider the source, and make decisions accordingly. The rest is a waste of energy.

I don't know a single person who was actually hurt by his comments, and the people shouting about his comments are all doing it on behalf of others who were supposedly hurt.

Meanwhile, we have real problems that need to be resolved. At the fish fry, I learned that Castro is the only candidate with a police reform plan. Why the fck aren't we talking about that?

If people actually care about black voters and the issues we actually face, why aren't we talking about police reform?! I don't give a shit what Biden said at a private fundraiser. But congrats, he's now unelectable. People like my brother will not vote for someone who they've heard is a racist. Mission accomplished... I guess.

It’s clear that 2020 will be a rerun of 2016, with Sanders staying in the race way after he’s relevant, hurting our nominee in the process.

He’s already taking potshots at the “corporate wing of the D party.” I expect it to get worse as he inevitably falls in the polls.

Booker, Harris, Gillibrand come to mind. If you are parsing Bernie's statement only who do you think that they want the apology aimed at? It would be silly for them to demand an apology for themselves.

… how this non-story has become a “thing”.

Biden did not “praise” or “extol the virtues of” the people he mentioned, nor did he “wax nostalgic” for the bad ol’ days – terms currently being bandied about.

He mentioned two people who were, at their core, the opposite of his own core beliefs – and went on to say that despite their differences, they were able to treat each other civilly and work together productively.

I’m not seeing the issue – or what some people are determined to make into an issue.

As for Bernie, I'm not terribly interested in anything he has to say - in fact, I am not interested at all.

… "issue" to have taken the spotlight... both men have not done themselves any good on this so-called flub. At first, I thought Biden acted correctly by denying he was "racist" in that he denied something that wasn't accused. Although that is dishonest, it can end a conversation you don't want to have... but, it didn't work... And, Bernie jumping on the bandwagon by calling for an apology to the country! Good grief!
