Disqualifying: Bernie thinks Senator Inhofe (R) a climate-change denier is a decent guy and a friend

Last edited Sun May 19, 2019, 04:39 PM - Edit history (1)

Edit:

Let me note that my reason for posting this is to point out the irony in the numerous threads and posts (from non-Biden supporters) that relentlessly criticize him for having Republican friends and for desiring to work along with the other side - for Joe daring to give a speech about unity and not being angry.

I refer to a thread posted several days ago that read:

Disqualifying: Biden gave paid speech supporting Repuke in 2018

I am showing, through irony, how foolish it is to blast a politician for being amicable toward a colleague that might have differing views. Like Joe and Bernie, elected officials should be able to befriend Republicans and find common ground to work together, without being pummeled for doing so.

I hope that, after my explanation, the point that I am trying to drive home does not escape anybody...

******************************************************************************************************

“Jim is a climate-change denier. He is really, really conservative, but you know what, he is a decent guy and I like him, and he and I are friends,” Sanders told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

The above quote is found in parapgraph #10, in the article...

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged Thursday that “one of my problems, if I ever run for president, is that I like Republicans.”

“Bless me, Father, if I have sinned,” Biden added to laughs, as he spoke before the US Conference of Mayors’ winter meeting in Washington....

From a distance Inhofe strikes me as a class-A asshole, but I've never met him. Sanders isn't saying he thinks Inhofe has any good ideas, just that he is friendly with him. The same article mentions Ted Kennedy's friendship with Orrin Hatch - does that mean Kennedy was a horrible senator?

but that doesn't mean that Inhofe shouldn't be tarred and feathered.

How many times have we heard people describe serial killers as nice people? Sometimes, even rape victims have nice words to describe their assailants. Go figure. I don't understand any of it. But it happens. Sanders is just as wrong-headed. Sanders needs to look at what Inhofe has DONE as a politician and make assessments on his record of behavior. How many lives has Inhofe ripped apart because of Inhofe's draconian political views? How many terminal illnesses has Inhofe caused by his asinine anti-environment, climate denying decisions? And Sanders thinks he's a nice guy?

Internet such a poor medium for communication even though it has become prevalent in our Modern Age. We are missing the physical component, body language and vocal tone.

It's why there is so much miscommunication between people. An innocuous comment can be taken out of context so easily without being able to observe the person's Behavior

Hatch is an arch-conservative with regressive policies. Friendship doesn't mean political support. Biden and Sanders have friends on both sides of the aisle, as do many of the other senators running. Al Franken: "You see, there are only a hundred of us senators. And none of us can do the job without working with the other ninety-nine. ... sure, a lone senator can hold things up with a filibuster or some other procedural maneuver. But actual passing legislation takes teamwork. Very often, the only way a bill stands a chance is if you can find a cosponsor in the other party, to make it bipartisan. ... And it's why, as silly as it may sound, it's important that we try to like each each other. That's right, like each other."
