How Bernie Sanders Got Rich Selling Books (just the facts)

OK, here is a chart from Forbes showing Sanders' income from book royalties.

Here's the link to Forbes:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2019/04/12/how-bernie-sanders-the-socialist-senator-amassed-a-25-million-fortune/#42f0e94236bf

Also, here's the link to FEC filings showing: Bernie spent $444,937.50 of his campaign dollars on his book "Our Revolution".

https://www.reddit.com/r/Enough_Sanders_Spam/comments/bfsebt/bernie_spent_44493750_of_campaign_dollars_on_his/

Sanders' book royalties included a $505,000 advance on his book “Where We Go From Here,” which was published in 2018, Newsweek reported.

This is why he has so much income even though this book sold only 26,000 copies.

The publisher figured that since his book "Our Revolution" was a bestseller, then his new book would be one also.

But "Our Revolution" was a bestseller only because he sold the books to himself, using money donated to his campaign.

Somehow all of this doesn't seem quite kosher. But it does explain how Bernie got rich by running for president.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

His fan club doesn’t want to discuss all of his campaign funds. Strangely they all want to skip the 2016 election funding.
And all of his negative votes or actions are pooh poohed away with ridiculous explanations, like his vote for the 94 crime bill or voting to invade e Irsq in 98(just because the US didn’t go through with the military action doesn’t mean he’s simply exonerated for the vote) He praises Ortega, he foolishly thinks tariffs like the ones Trump has placed are a smart play.

If tariffs “work” with China, there’s theater going on and the actors are the Oligarchs currently running the world.

Now that Russia sanctions are no longer coupled to Iran sanctions, the slippery "I don't want to jeopardize the Iran treaty" excuse for voting against the Russia sanctions will no longer work.

BS missed the January vote when he left to meet the whistle blowers who exposed the sexual discrimination, bias, and violence in the 2016 BS campaign.

The whistle blowers were in Washington for three days of meetings. The fiery socialist/independent/democrat had promised to meet with the whistle blowers to address the predatory culture of his 2016 campaign. BS spent one hour with them in the course of three days and that one hour exactly coincided with the time of the Russia sanctions vote in the Senate.

And I’ve criticized Bernard on plenty of things besides the fact he is a self identified socialist, being soft on guns and his refusal to sanction putin’s Russia for interfering in our elections support for 3rd world banana republic dictators and so on.

Bernie has a lot of faults so the fact he is a self identified socialist is just more grist for the mill. It’s hardly the entire game.

....Verso Books, who call themselves "the largest independent, radical publishing house in the English-speaking world." and they just happen to have an extensive Sanders blog on their website and distribute Sanders books.

Link to Sanders 2016 expenditures as reported to the FEC, totaling $444,900. Why would a campaign spend almost a half million dollars on books from a "radical" book seller?

The similarities between the megalomaniacal billionaire hotel-casino owner with hair the texture of cotton candy, a penchant for surgically enhanced arm candy and outsize ambitions that appears in Back to the Future Part II and the one presently appearing on the presidential campaign trail?

Not so coincidental after all!

Back to the Future Part II screenwriter Bob Gale confirmed in an interview with the Daily Beast that Donald Trump was the inspiration for the character he and director Robert Zemeckis created back in 1989.

“We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding?” Gale told the Daily Beast. “You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah.”

54. I don't think so. Seems that candidates can't get royalties from what the campaign buys.
Sat May 18, 2019, 12:46 PM
May 2019

This is stated by a couple of posters in the Reddit responses to the OP in Reddit.

It seems likely that they bought a bunch of books to sell through their campaign (you know how the candidates all have things for sale). The campaign may have made a profit, but the candidate doesn't get royalties on those books.

But a poster pointed out that if a campaign buys a bunch of books, retailers don't know that and think the book is selling more than it is, which may make them buy some for their inventory. So that would have resulted in royalties, I guess.

The Reddit response post also referenced that the FEC noticed, and issued him a long campaign regs letter, requesting more information. http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/847/201605100300045847/201605100300045847.pdf He didn't get a violation, so I guess it was okay.

Where are the documents showing he had his campaign pay for the last three books that made him a millionaire?
All you have listed are the raw expenditures file from the FEC web from 2015. Nothing after that.

Are you claiming he went back into time to 2015 make money off his three bestsellers that were written and published in 2016, 2017, 2018? Cause that's pretty fucking awesome if he can do that.

Our Revolution 2016 was published by St Martin's Press
Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution 2017 was published by Henry Holt and Company
Where We Go from Here: Two Years in the Resistance 2018 was published by St. Martin's Press

If Bernie spent $444,937.50 of his campaign dollars on his book "Our Revolution" that's a
fucking cool magic trick since they are claiming he got money for it a year before it was written from a publisher that didn't publish it.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts, this same line of attack against Bernie will be recycled dozens of more times, no matter how many times you continue to point this out.

It's the "Bernie Standard," rearing its ugly head, like the time there were made up facts that Bernie never disclosed any of his tax returns, when he did... you remember that? Only Bernie sposedly had "something to hide." Or, that the tax documents Bernie had provided were alleged to have been only summary pages, when that also wasn't true. I could cite you numerous other examples of the "Bernie Standard," that's never applied to other candidates.

I commend you for fighting the good fight... though, it's a never-ending battle I'm afraid.

Sen. Bernie Sanders' income spiked in 2016 as he finished a bid for the presidency, according to a new financial disclosure report filed Sunday with the U.S. Senate.

snip========================================

The new report shows that Sanders earned $63,750 from a version [of one of his revolution© books] marketed at young adults, which is expected to be published this summer, as well as $6,735 from his 1997 memoir, "Outsider in the House," which was updated and re-titled "Outsider in the White House" for the presidential campaign.

https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/politics/2017/06/05/sanders-rakes-865-000-book-deals/371038001/

I wonder if Verso hired someone to help ghost the update or if it's just a new cover.
