I would imagine he's very low on sleep. Edited to add: I am not mentioning sleep as a reference to Trump's nickname, but because I stumble with my words when I'm low on sleep. (I'm in my 50's.) It's what I hope caused this.
If he continues to have trouble finding words, he could have some loss of mental acuity. This wouldn't be disqualifying to me--loss of mental acuity isn't Alzheimer's--as it could be offset by his experience, values and judgment.

(19,460 posts)At 72, I pay more attention to my walking and how fast I walk, just to make sure I don't fall and break a hip. I am more aware when I am driving. I go up and down my staircase a little it slower. I talk a little bit slower so I don't stumble over words. Mother nature waits on no one.

And they must not understand that there is no good test for determining who's at risk of Alzheimers; and that the risk doubles every five years after 65 -- and that a third to a half have it by age 85.

(48,966 posts)people who don't have the risk factors have a very low risk.
These are the risk factors: diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, depression, cognitive inactivity or low education, and physical inactivity.
As far as I know, none apply to Biden. He's physically fit and active, doesn't smoke or drink, has the social connections and interactions that many seniors don't (lacking those social connections is supposed to be a major risk factor), and so on.

(8,201 posts)That doesn't have to be a precursor to Alzheimer's, and in terms of the job requirements, it can be more than offset by experience and sound judgment.
It did give me pause, though.
