- We ask all Social Security Works WA organizational and individual members to take whatever steps you can take to build a large turn out for this event!
- Additionally, we need a large number of people to provide security for this event. Please contact Mike Andrew, msand76@hotmail.com if you and /or your organization can provide volunteers to provide security. Volunteers providing security will meet in front of the stage at Westlake at 11:30 a.m.

Looks like the SSW event will be a brief check-in; a larger event is planned for the evening.

Ok, we have confirmation that Senator Sanders WILL be coming to Seattle. He's speaking at a rally in Westlake Park on Saturday, August 8th, from 1pm to 3pm. That rally is in support of the Social Security Works Coalitions. And that's fantastic.
However, and even more exciting, the campaign is organizing an EVENT somewhere in Seattle for later that day. Where, we don't exactly know yet, or at least we're being asked not to say. But here's the link to RSVP:

Whatever venue they've reached out to, here's our goal. Make them change that venue, at least twice, between now and August 8th. We can get tens of THOUSANDS of people coming to see him in Seattle. We can do this.

Organizers of an anniversary celebration rally for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid planned for Saturday, Aug. 8 in downtown Seattle announced today that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has accepted an invitation to attend and speak at the event.
We are very excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid and the 80th anniversary of Social Security, said Robby Stern of Social Security Works Washington, which is organizing the Aug. 8 event, and President of the Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action. We are particularly honored to welcome Senator Bernie Sanders, one of the national advocacy leaders for strengthening and expanding these three critical programs.
It will be Sanders first visit to Washington state since announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential election.
SocSec-anniversary-15Aug08The Social Security & Medicare Celebration will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Westlake Plaza, 400 Pine St. in downtown Seattle.

We're in a friendly competition with Portland, so please spread the word, invite your friends and neighbors, and let's turn this into an event to rival anything Seafair can put together!

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, whose rallies around the country have drawn as many as 11,000 people, will speak next Saturday, August 8, at a Social Security Works rally in Seattles Westlake Park.
Although not officially an event in his bid for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, Sanders speech will be the first time in the 2016 campaign cycle that a major party candidate visiting Seattle has NOT limited his or her appearance to a pricey fundraiser at a millionaires digs in Seattle or Medina.
Sanders will later have a campaign rally, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Alaska Airlines Arena of Hec Edmundson Pavilion at the University of Washington. President Obama spoke there five years ago, drawing such a crowd that Husky Stadium was needed for overflow.
At Westlake, Sanders will be joined on the podium by U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, longtime Seattle folksinger Jim Page, and Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant. Sawant is part of the Trotskyist Socialist Alternative Party. Sanders is a self-described democratic socialist.
