Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumThe MSM Has Ignored What Should Have Been The Political News Story Of The Day......
Last night was epic. The Bernie Sanders campaign made history. A 100,000+ Americans in every state of the union met to organize as a force to elect Bernie President in 2016. An army of foot soldiers was created to knock on doors and tell the Bernie story. That has never been done before in such a unique way by anyone running for office.
If this was pulled off by one of those in the Clown Car or even by Hillary - this would have been the biggest political story of the day. They would have been hailed as a genius or a political guru. We still hear them give accolades to Howard Dean's 50 state strategy.
Well last night was on par with that 50 state strategy and it was pulled off so smoothly using the technologies of out time - without having the backing of monied political sugar daddies like the Koch's or Adelson.
If you think of how far Bernie has come since he announced his candidacy in Vermont - it is an amazing feat.
But because it is Bernie and because he is hitting the 1%, the corporatists and banksters right between the eyes - telling the truth that no one can deny they need to minimize Bernie. So they are not giving him the proper coverage or kudos for this historic political accomplishment
This makes me even more passionate to work hard for Bernie and get him elected. Last night was another step forward in the Bernie revolution campaign. Feel the Bern!!!!!

(25,294 posts)I couldn't help but wonder what are the journalists, newspeople and media moguls thinking that maybe read my post as well. I'm sure we have some of them as lurkers here or even perhaps incognito members of DU with an alias.
Are they thinking something like - I realize we ignored that story - but I had to - I have to keep my job - my bosses didn't want me to touch it.
Or are they thinking something completely different? Maybe something like - we'll be kicking ourselves after Sanders wins Iowa and New Hampshire that we didn't take him more seriously and covered him.
MSM really screwed up in my opinion. When will they join the Revolution?

6 companies control 90% of the media. Under that scenario, divergent opinions simply aren't allowed. Big business has an agenda, and those 6 media companies are among our biggest businesses. They will also be the biggest beneficiaries of the investments that the Kochs will make in Republican candidates, and the Wall Streeters will make in Hillary.
Bernie even scares their other advertisers, like big pharma, big oil, big ag and big EVERYTHING. The "mainstream media" is already bought and paid for, and we cannot depend on them to make decisions regarding what we do & do not "need to know".

As Hillary dips and Bernie climbs, someone has to give in and start covering it. We may see the Koch's forced to fight a three or four front war, diluting the influence of their money. Throwing money away on their boy Walker, throwing money away fighting T-Rump, attacking Hillary and Bernie too. God it would be awesome if Bernie and T-Rump got the nominations and the Koch bastards wasted a fortune!

The misinformation fed me by the Los Angeles Times, other newspapers and the MSM in general in the build-up to the Iraq War totally turned me of the corporate-controlled media.
The newscasters are just a bunch of fools as far as I am concerned. They are in general too poorly educated to know truth from fiction. They just think and then read and say what they have been taught to believe without questioning it. Even the questions they ask reveal a lack of knowledge of and understanding or the world.
It is interesting to me how many former reporters and new correspondents who covered wars and foreign news no longer recite or believe the MSM assumptions.

Dissecting strategies and profiling current rosters of each "team". The call ups of veterans and the speculation about who would be next was akin to the NFL draft and free agency. Meanwhile, my 8 and 6 year old saw this and would aske me, "Dad? Are you going to war?". Bastards. I'll never forgive the MSM for what they put my wife and children through. It's not a freaking GAME.

You can bet they are watching, they did this with OWS too. They were there with their news vans and helicopters, watching, but didn't cover it, still thinking they had the POWER to influence people.
But OWS organizers had prepared their OWN media. The Corporate Media couldn't understand why and how the movement spread so rapidly across the country when it was only supposed to be in one City, for at the most, two weeks.
They are dinosaurs, no one uses them for news anymore.
When they realized that OWS had some 'secret' way to get the information out to the WORLD, then they decided they needed to start covering them. THAT's when the smears and bias and negative coverage began.
But it was TOO LATE, OWS had already SUCCEEDED in getting their message out without the interference of the Corporate Media.
So let's HOPE they do the same thing with Bernie until we are sure the entire country hears him and gets to know him WITHOUT the biased coverage of the Corporate Media.

(62,325 posts)they used to get their movement known across the Globe.
They are very active also in helping other movements, eg, the Ferguson Protests, and all the demonstrations against Police Brutality that have taken place since then. In Oakland, where they had so many runins with the robo cops themselves, in LA etc.
They are still involved in helping people who are being foreclosed on, and on Student Debt etc. and the homeless.
It's really exciting to see these movements join to together and help each other, but then it shouldn't be surprising.
There is still an OWS presence in every state, very active now in Bernie's campaign.
They were excellent at using their own media and Social Media to get THEIR movement into the public consciousness and are doing the same thing re Bernie.
I agree that things are different now than when Dean was stopped by the Corporate Media. There was no Social Media back then, to speak of eg.
THAT is where young people are active today and they despise the Corporate Media.
So whenever there is an attempt to smear Bernie by someone from the media or eg, Claire McCaskill, it is all over Social Media and destroyed which is why so far, all the attempts to smear him have failed.
He has a literal ARMY of hundreds of thousands of volunteers online fielding every attempt, see Gutierrez eg, to derail this campaign.
But it is urgent to increase those numbers BEFORE they really start going after him, and they will so that no matter what they try to do it will backfire, as everything they've done so far, has.
It is due to the activists and supporters he has already that so far, nothing has managed to affect him.
Good post btw, just wanted people to know that just because the MSM doesn't cover them, OWS is very much alive and active.
You are right that OWS laid a foundation. Someone said recently that they were 'seed and Bernie is the fruit' of that seed.

(57,936 posts)He had the I-Pad and gave it to me because I babysit my grandchildren in another city and it is nice to be able to take the I-Pad when I visit them.
Apparently you can't just hand an I-Pad to your wife or someone in your family and say "Now this is yours." His e-mail shows up on the I-Pad and so does mine. And they now are showing up at the same time, and Yahoo won't let me into my e-mail on my home laptop. (My home laptop is rather old, I must admit.)
I think that might be the problem.
I was hacked a couple of years ago. My computer history is odd, but I don't know whether it is because I am in the library card generation or because there is something like a glitch in the system or, perhaps, something more sinister.
We know that the NSA and Homeland Security and who knows who else keep tabs on various groups ranging from peace activists to Occupy to the Quakers (pacifists no less), I have received a notification from Facebook that my account when first opened was accessed from a town in Virginia in which the largest employer is Booz, Hamilton. Plus for a long time, the default weather report on my Yahoo page was for that same town in Virginia. I have never been there. DUers have told me that my link to that town is probably that somehow my internet is routed through it. I am still bemusedly rather suspicious about the reason for that and the series of coincidences.
After all, I do post a lot of controversial opinions on DU. And I have in the distant past traveled a lot and lived overseas. Plus I have friends on Facebook from other countries.
At any rate, I am a very harmless grandmother of 72, and just in case any snoops are interested in me, they can read everything I think on DU and it's all public and I don't have any sinister secrets. They are the ones with sinister secrets. Not me.
So if they think that I DO have sinister secrets, they are suffering from what my high school psychology teacher told me was "projection."
I don't mind being watched if I am being watched, but I do think it would be a waste of bandwidth, time and money to watch me. I don't get that many recs or that much interest on DU even. Never was a leader. Why would anyone so much as be interested in my demographic. So anyway.
My problem accessing Yahoo may in reality be due to my own stupidity but since it is painful to admit to such stupidity, I'd rather, human that I am, blame some mythical, enormous, spider of a secret agency for my problems. I'm human, after all.
But probably, most likely, and in the end, I will take my I-Pad to the Apple store and somehow get it put into my name so that when I press the e-mail button on it, I get access finally to Yahoo. And I will get a new password and be able to access my e-mail account again. Or, when I see a nephew this weekend, I will ask him to look at it and maybe he can fix it. He is in the computer generation. (Now we understand why the millenials seem to like Bernie and the grandparent generation so much. They love seeing how much we need them to fix our computers. It endears us to them.)
My computer was hacked a few years ago, I think to get a list of names that was entrusted to me by an organization in which I was one of the officers. The organization is perfectly mainstream and legitimate, but it is possible that someone was curious about it. At that time, Yahoo required me to think up a password which only I can remember. Actually, I have it written down, but it might be rather difficult for someone to figure it out -- but maybe someone did and that is why I can't get in. Maybe I have been hacked again.
Isn't it great to have the internet. Think of it. Before the internet little old ladies like me sat in rocking chairs with utterly no intrigue or excitement in their lives for years and years, stirring up trouble for their children and their childrens' in-laws and baking cookies every once in a while and now -- look at us. We have blogs. We post our opinions. We communicate with people in other countries. We read. We analyze. We formulate opinions. We share ideas. And no one with whom we correspond can see our wrinkles, our grey, our sagging jaw-lines. What a life.
Just sayin'.

Forty years ago there was a flourishing of creative ideas. Hopes for a better world mostly disappeared. We became lost in consumerland. Conservatives and their think tanks diverted and forced the conversation, and we acted as if they had something real to present.
Everything is the same, with opposition minimizing and demonizing, except one thing: A group of us are now focused on the serious truths we face.

(31,493 posts)Fox affiliate, Miami WSVN: "Sanders rallies supporters in nationwide simulcast"
Posted: Jul 30, 2015 5:15 PM EDT
By LISA LERER
Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called on supporters to spark a "political revolution" for his candidacy on Wednesday night, offering a rallying cry of "enough is enough" on a video simulcast to events across the country....
Sanders has ridden the populist wave surging through the Democratic party, attracting large crowds to rallies across the country with his unapologetically liberal message. In recent weeks, he's seized on Hillary Rodham Clinton's refusal to say whether she backs the Keystone XL pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership - both opposed by key segments of the Democratic base.
While Clinton remains the front-runner in the primary race, the Wednesday night event was intended as a show of strength for Sanders' candidacy. His campaign is trying to emulate the model used by President Barack Obama, who mobilized supporters against Clinton in the 2008 primary through an expansive organizing effort focused on networks of personal contacts....
Sanders' unexpectedly strong showing has not gone unnoticed by Clinton's team. Her aides have signaled that they consider Sanders to be a legitimate challenger who will be running for the long haul, noting the $15.2 million he's raised, largely from small donors, in the first three months of the race. They believe he will find a measure of support in Iowa, where the caucus system typically turns out the most passionate voters, and New Hampshire, given Sanders' many years representing neighboring Vermont in Congress....

(45,319 posts)stories about events created using communications networks other than there own are very unpopular with television media. They hate the fact that it is a video network just set up for the day's event, televised as it were. They do not like that there is an entire media system outside their comfy and formerly cornered market.
So even if they loved the candidate, they would despise that event. TV still hates that it is possible to have 100,000 people across the country watch visual content without using any TV.
