Is this not a BFD?Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) polls about as well as Clinton, if not better in some of the general election matchups in Iowa and Colorado, despite trailing the former secretary of State significantly in polls for the Democratic nomination. Vice President Joe Biden, who has not publicly announced a decision on 2016, matches up slightly worse than Clinton.

A majority of voters believes that Clinton is not honest and trustworthy and does not care about their needs. But most also say she has strong leadership qualities.
I wish those polled had specified the basis for their opinion about her strong leadership qualities.

(32,118 posts)Even though Biden has the VP experience (which is huge) he has the same problem as Hillary in terms of his long relationship with banks/credit card companies. If I'm going to choose between Joe Biden & Hillary Clinton I see the same third way issues - and I go for Clinton because she's younger and female.
However when you match up Bernie with Joe you get two guys who are personable, about the same age (Bernie only a year older), but Bernie has a more interesting mix of views. He is a democratic socialist who wants to rebuild this country and even expand some programs like social security (which could be extremely popular with the baby boom generation at the point of retirement). He has been living in a rural area, however, and favors things like allowing residents to hunt (as opposed to strict gun control). Those kind of small town issues will resonate with a lot of every day Americans who want to go to work, church, and have hobbies like hunting & fishing. I think he has a good handle on how folks live in this country, where they are stressed right now (jobs!), and how to attack those issues because he has been in Congress a long time.
