Related: About this forumSo I just read the email re: the kick-off on the 29th. I contacted the campaign with
a few questions. I would like to host a local event, but had some unanswered questions. I talked to a lady named Samantha. They are still working on the delivery method (all the digital stuff), but it will be broadcast on the internet. So a person would need internet connection, and a monitor large enough for everyone to see. I'm not an AV guy, to I would need help. I was thinking of renting the meeting room at a local hotel. Holds 30. She suggested I go ahead and set it up, and ask for the help I need, but I am leery. What if I don't get it? I don't want to host a bum event. Also, I forgot to ask about campaign materials. Sigh. What to do..

(23,156 posts)Call local hotel and see what they'd charge for a room. Consider asking a dollar or two from attendees to cover your costs, although if you do decide to go the rent a room route, be prepared to pay for it all yourself.

(130 posts)library meeting room or a church basement? I wouldn't expect you'd need to make more than a small donation for use of someone else's public room (similar to places used for other group meetings). There must be a place available somewhere for a more nominal fee than the hotel might charge.

(130 posts)Check with the hotel to see if they have a big screen in the meeting room. If so, all that's needed is an HTML cable to hook up a laptop to the bigscreen (similar to the setups in hotel rooms these days with flat screens which have a port for laptop attachment). Don't know if that helps or not, but the person in charge of the room rental would be able to help with specifics.
So happy to hear you're holding a meeting. Also just call them back about the materials. I'm not hosting our local meeting but I believe they will send out a packet of materials, or at least link you to materials you can print off. The description I received for our own local meeting said that the first 30 minutes would be dedicated to getting to know each other, everyone's reasons for interest in Bernie, etc - the last 30 would be a video feed from Bernie, and that there would be some materials. I'm sure it'd be fine to call them back and ask for more info. I haven't looked but there may already be materials on the website for handouts, etc.
eta: posted before I read more about the fee for a hotel rental.

I have some exciting news,
More people have contributed to our campaign than to any other candidate running for president, Democrat or Republican.
That is truly remarkable, and I am humbled by this support. But I will be frank: it may not matter in the end unless we get organized now.
On the evening of July 29, we will kick off building the organization that will take back our country from the billionaire class and Im going to speak directly by video to this unprecedented gathering.
People will gather at more than 1,000 homes, restaurants, and other locations across the country for our first ever national organizing meeting, including this event close to you:
Wednesday, July 29ᵗʰ at 7:00 pm PDT
(Someone is hosting within a mile of me)
But there are many, many more events happening all over. Find other events happening near you, and RSVP to join us for this historic night.
Find more events
At our organizing meetings, you'll have the opportunity to meet other supporters in your area, talk about why you support our campaign, and then tune in to a live broadcast where we will discuss how we take the next step together to build the organization that will change our country.
What we are building together is both unprecedented and critically important to our future. While other candidates may have more money, we have already proven that we have more people now let's show them what happens when the people unite.
Find and join an organizing meeting for our campaign on July 29.
Thank you.
