(50,130 posts)And the party will be irrelevant because of it.
Bernie is now the head of a movement, and everything the DNC does to suppress him simply builds the movement. They have nearly turned him into a martyr, and allowed him to achieve larger than life status with millions of people.
He's bigger than the Democratic Party now. And he heads a group that vastly outnumbers Third Way Democrats: progressives and independents. Twice as many of those than there are Third Wayers.
This is a really exciting time! A new party is being born, in the fight that will take place on the convention floor.
We are the future, yes. The thinkers, the lovers of justice and egalitarianism and truth and a future for all people.
Sayonara to the status quo.
The Third Way made a huge mistake by fueling Bernie's base.

This was never about Sanders the man for me or I suspect most of us. It is about the politics. It is about getting back to the leftist roots of economic and social justice. That he was the right man in the right moment is what fate is all about. I watched Sanders morph from a rather unassuming but obviously passionate progressive congress person into the bold, passionate, and progressive leader of a movement.
I am so proud of him and us for fighting all the way to the convention and beyond. The Democratic Party will change or it will die. This is the lesson of the cycles of history.
We are the future, yes. The thinkers, the lovers of justice and egalitarianism and truth and a future for all people.
YES! Beautifully stated, and I could not agree more!

(1,166 posts)Workers lost their labor representation and now the idea is that they should not have political representation either. They're banking on the supposed "truism" that third parties can't work in this country. They better hope they're wrong about that because people divested of any political representation whatsoever almost always eventually rise up in ways that make "polite society" very uncomfortable, to say the least. Hubris before the fall ... what hubris it takes to divest a massive percentage of the population of political representation. Very, very short sighted.
The irony is that Sanders revolution is not a violent one. However, history shows us that if change does not occur and we continue down the road we are, we may unfortunately see an actual violent revolution in our near future.
Doctor_J
(36,392 posts)the ones the op describes are actually republicans but afraid of trump. Or maybe just outrageously sexist. Face it, if Hillary was running against Romney or some mainstream republican, she would lose, probably badly. And the party will see no appreciable gains in congress, thanks to their hatred of Sanders supporters. The right wing "dems" should thank their lucky stars for trump. Best of luck to them building a viable party without liberals or young voters.

(14,459 posts)But this is the micro of the macro, and that's why I'm still here. Team Hill here is announcing the official policy of Dem Leadership now- the GOP and their money is welcome in, the rest of us, out!

(24,324 posts)AND your great comments above.
I campaigned for Jesse Jackson in Cincinnati in 1984. I met Jesse very briefly at Lunken Airport, when his plane stopped there to refuel, yes at that small old airport. He and a few of his staff and I and a few other local campaigners had coffee for, oh maybe 45 minutes. I will never forget it. And I will never forget his magnetism at a huge rally in downtown Cincinnati... I worked hard for him and he won the county!!
Bernie has the same thing....

(349 posts)The establishments of both parties (not the entire parties) are wings
of the Corporatist/Militarist overlords. Using social issues to
convince the masses into thinking that there are differences.
Paul Wellstone used to say, "The differences make a difference." This is
true when comparing actual liberalism to actual conservatism. But not
when comparing the establishments of Corporatist/Militarist Party #1a
and Corporatist/Militarist Party #1b.

The recent allowing of harassment of individuals, bannings and exiles has changed the temperament of this site. But perhaps all along it was a place that served a purpose that served "other" individuals by being able to report the pulse of a community and the experiment has gone badly since the rift in the Party is painfully large enough to drop a continent off of. Asking one to sacrifice and suck it up when they see species dying, people drinking poisoned water, massive homelessness and suffering is not an option for some.
I want to thank you for your hard work of past and encourage and support your hard work of the future.
That is the worst. That a candidate as flawed and as bad as Clinton is has been considered to be the 'belle of the ball'. She represents and stands for things that most on the left have fought against for so long.
And yes, I agree. Life is too short personally and now too short for us all apparently to just deal with this greed disguised as incrementalism and warmongering as pragmatism.

(11,945 posts)I know we got off to a rough start, but eventually we realized we're 100% on the same side.
I'm going to try to stick it out until DU anoints Hill, at which point there won't be much left to say. For the next few days, though, I hope we can get as much information out there as possible. Information should be shared widely for the last remaining primaries. Every vote counts and DU has a lot of readers.
You mentioned that you're a psychologist. I saw a movie today about a dysfunctional society, a dystopia, and realized at some point in the film that it was starting to remind me of aspects of DU. Then it finally hit that there are unhealthy elements to this place.
See you in a bit at JPR.
TM99
(8,352 posts)and I think it was more a miscommunication than anything else.
And you are right. Our society is very dysfunctional. It probably always will be but each generation will deal with a new version of that dysfunction. They must figure out a solution. What saddens me is that books I read and teachers I studied with decades now ago correctly predicted the rise of pathological narcissism as acceptable in our culture today.
DU reflects a war that is going on between that which is healthy and that which is not. How could we not have gotten sucked into it and had some conflict? Dysfunctional families and other 'fields' engender the same.
I am glad that we saw through it and do realize that we are on the same side and always were.
Stay as long as you need to. I stayed longer than I initially planned for the same reasons. But now with JPR 2.0 in the works, I want to devote time I save by not posting here to making there the best place possible. That requires some work, responsibility, and a little extra free time. And gods know I don't have a lot of that!
Thanks! See you very soon as well.
bjo59
(1,166 posts)is so visible everywhere. Both theorists and clinicians have long warned that the more widespread narcissism becomes, the more of a toxic effect it has on non-narcissists, transforming many non-narcissists into narcissists themselves (and plunging the rest of us into depression, perhaps!). Very good idea to remove oneself the toxins of such environments!
TM99
(8,352 posts)is Narcissism by Alexander Lowen. He wrote this in the late 1960's into the early 1970's and warned very much about it.
And yes, we recognize something called a 'field effect'. Spend time around narcissists long enough and any latent narcissism will manifest and if not, you will start feeling and acting badly due to their toxic influence. Those who have grown up in families with one or more parents or siblings with personality disorders knows that damage that occurs until you can get away.
But where do we go when it is taking over our society? The scariest thing is the recognition that I have now that when narcissists are around sociopaths, then it is all over. Things go from bad to horrific very quickly. When that has happened through out history cultures and societies have fallen, genocides have occurred, and wars have been started.
MuseRider
(34,136 posts)I can't really post there yet and it is damned slow to load so I can only read a little but it is better than being here these days.
I live in Kansas. I am used to people disagreeing with me. It never bothers me all that much because I am used to it. I can spend an entire day going round and round with someone and keep my cool. That is because most people will not treat you like scum just because you disagree. I have never had a right winger here come up to me after I lose something and call me a loser. Only once has someone denied me their hand for a shake after and interview (on TV that was great). There is rarely any taunting except from the most disgusting teabaggers. THOSE people you can always count on to act the way we are being treated here by the other side, and I do mean OTHER side. While there is not one single thing that HRH stands for (that I can even believe that she stands for or maybe she does just for now even if she did mean it, kinda or sorta) she consorts with the worst people who have ever crossed paths with our government and the people that support her are calling us losers and acting all pretentious?
As I said, I can take losing because it happens almost every time here in my state. I can take being friends or at least be nice to those who disagree with me but I will not stand to be treated like I have seen others treated over the last few days here. It has not happened to me or if it has I have not seen it. I only hid people who had nothing to say but hateful, untruthful crap because they were not productive and really, I would can them in real life so why take it here? They will never be off that list because there was not reason to ever read their stuff again. If a site is so full of that many people who are people I would never ever even consider being around IRL then why stay?
I will come back and read some things, it is a great site for getting news and if you can stay off the political forums and just read the Latest Page without reading comments you can be informed better than anywhere else I have ever found. In all these years I have had one hide and that was in 2004, one post this year went to a jury and was not hidden but it is time for me to find a new favorite home place before I risk becoming like them. It is getting too hard to control myself these days. I simply cannot stand the attitude. If this is a shade of what is to come I think I may just tune out for good.
Just to be clear to those who read this and think it is funny. We, or at least I am not leaving because we are sore losers we are leaving because every thing we have been fighting for cannot ever happen if the attitudes expressed here are allowed to run this country. We don't hate anyone but you obviously do otherwise you would never act the way you are acting now. Today did it for me.
TM99
(8,352 posts)Yes, I am not leaving in defeat or anger. Hell I am leaving in victory and in joy!
DU is MySpace circa 2005 just before Facebook took off. DU and DailyKos are not long for this new age where decentralized social media like Facebook and Twitter allow instant communication instead of the slowness of forums. And when we want to be on forums, damn it, we want to be someplace where we are respected, feel safe to communicate, and can engage with like minds. And if we are debating against each other, it has to be without the bullying that has taken over DU this election season. If I want to debate a conservative, I will do so at DI. And there I find they are more polite, respectful, and honorable even if we totally disagree on so many things.
JPR is in the process of moving to our next version. I can't tell you how many times daily I see our programmer/admins working on the speed and caching issues. They are tireless in their efforts to make something great. And that is what I and so many others want, another place that is great for progressives and leftists.
Check us out again really soon!

I hate what has happened here. I always donate and have always appreciated the site but it is so out of control now I can't stand it.
Like you, most of us are leaving with our joy intact, we are leaving because just feeling good about our candidate makes you a target for verbal abuse. What we have is a path for victory but not for us, for all people. I refuse to read abuse for that anymore.
TM99

I experienced abuse as a kid. My mother, no matter how much I loved her and still do, is an alcoholic. Thankfully she is now a recovery one. I often stay longer than I should trying to 'help' others and can get hyper-responsible at times.

Don't know if I'll be writing it off completely. There are a few I take pleasure reading that probably won't be moving on, for instance H2OMan is someone I love reading.

I feel that way about so many of y'all as well.
My patience is gone. I have never tolerated fools or bullies gladly. I will rack up more hides than I should if I keep engaging these fools and bullies here. And for what purpose? When I answered that question, I knew it was time to move on.

After seeing the lies circulated about Sanders civil rights background ("photo-gate", "I-never-saw-him-gate" and seeing the ugly echo chamber on other supposedly liberal websites, I knew we were in trouble. It might've been adequate in 2008 after 8 years of GWB but 2016 is a different game altogether. Hillary was made to look like Obama's heir apparent, no questions asked.
HRC may very well poach many voters from the GOP which could offset any BoBs but only time will tell. This election has me very disheartened.
TM99
(8,352 posts)HRC may still the Democratic nomination. I am prepared for that. No, BoB's may not be enough to stop her from becoming President. I don't want her or Trump. I am preparing for both of those possibilities.
This site is for them. Skinner is for her. I still know that Sanders is not done. Not next Tuesday, not the following, and not until the convention is done!
So I want to be around those that still share my faith, my hope, and my vision for a future that is better than the one I am looking towards. I don't want my nieces and nephews to pay the prices that I have.
The revolution did not start with Sanders, and it won't end with him either.

(4,280 posts)The revolution definitely won't end with Sanders. I am so inspired by the energy my granddaughters and their friends are putting into his campaign. They are 23, graduated from ECU last year, and each has a $30,000 debt. Of course they are internet savvy and know what's going on.

(45,251 posts)That is a beautiful post, too. I am not sure if I agree with how you once saw DU. Then again, I did not even know about the site's existence when Dimson was in office, so I cannot speak to that, except through what I have read after the fact.

I know the truth of DU and have for some time. That's why I said in spite of it, there was a strong anti-war voice here in those years. There were many strong progressives then that yes, began to be silenced and ousted year after year after year.
I will see you at the new homestead! You are someone I don't want to ever say a permanent good bye to!

Worst of all, what now passes as acceptable in a Democratic candidate, just a few years ago was almost unanimously slammed by DU members--when republicans did something similar. Now, somehow, when Her Majesty does it, it's presidential or it doesn't matter or it caused no harm.
The Democratic party and DU are supporting a candidate under criminal investigation by the FBI! I can't even imagine how that insanity has come to pass.

Come, my friends,
'T is not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

If I log out, and look at GD-P without my ignore list, I feel nothing but revulsion. The ugliness, the sophistry - did you know that Bernie and Hillary are really quite alike and we are just overly invested in the campaign? - I don't think I can be at DU if Bernie is not the nominee. Or be a Democrat, if Hillary is what Democrats consider a great candidate. So, if Hillary is the nominee, I am out of DU and out of the Democratic Party. I will vote down-ticket, but, seeing how DWS blocks progressives here in Florida, I have no hope that the party will do anything but slide more and more to the right, greased by money and greed.

If I can abandon the place I considered my home on the internet for a decade, why would I stick around here with the same dynamic? I won't. I will not vote for Clinton under any circumstances. If you put a gun to my head and told me I had to vote for Clinton or Trump, I'd just let you shoot me right then.
I'll be hanging out mostly at caucus99percent.com (which is similar to the jack pine radicals site, but for dailykos refugees instead of DU refugees). Now that I think about it, those 2 sites need to communicate. They're the same political segment from the 2 different sites.

(2,096 posts)for all that you've done here at DU. I've been here since 2005 and I've been a Democrat since the early 70s. After watching the lies, distortions and mean spirited venom hurled at us during this campaign there is no way to have any meaningful conversations here anymore. There are so many horrible things that have been said that I can't forget them. Even in the height of battle during a primary some of the things that were said and pushed are just unforgivable. I've actually had more civil conversations with Republicans than some of the "Democrats" here at DU. The fact that so many Hillary supporters have flip flopped on principles that have long been a part of the Democratic Party is just staggering to see.
As a feminist since the early 70s I've cringed as I watched Hillary supporters use the term sexism as a weapon to silence others. I was also very angry at the lies that were pushed about Sanders supporters being racist. The people who did that are not people I want to associate with at any level. So I too will make the transition to JPR because I don't support what the Party has become. That's pretty sad considering I've been a registered Democrat since the 1970s. And what's even sadder is that the Hillary people here would just tell me don't let the door hit you on the way out. People who have a win at all cost mindset are so wrapped up in winning that they don't see that they are burning down everything around them. And when they do notice it they aren't even honest enough with themselves to admit that they may have gone too far. They will instead blame everyone else but themselves. I will stay here long enough to pm some of the people I respect to let them know that I'm leaving but then I'm gone too.
EDIT: My thanks goes out to all of the Sanders supporters here at DU. You make me proud.

(2,161 posts)I refuse to watch the Hillary-Trump Reality TV Show, directed by Bill Clinton.
What we are seeing is Reality TV, directed by Bill Clinton, who talked with Donald Trump prior to Trump's entering the race and reportedly encouraged him to get into it. Bill and Donny are working together to elect Hillary.
It looks like we really do have a Trump-Clinton race, so I'm going to try to develop new hobbies and give up on following presidential politics. I hate reality TV, and I'm convinced that's all a Clinton-Trump race is -- a reality TV show that ends with Hillary in the White House.
The more outrageous Trump is, the more he pushes people, who 2 years ago would have said they would NEVER vote for Hillary, into voting for her in the fall. It's the only way she can plausibly win, so that's the theater show Bill and Donald are producing.
I'm also convinced that the powers that rig the voting machines will do so on Hillary's behalf. She's the Establishment choice, by far. She's the one who will keep the Military Industrial Complex and Wall Street rolling along as usual, lining the pockets of the rich and powerful. The outcome is not in doubt.
I'm so certain of my cynical views that if Hillary wins the FBI primary and actually becomes the nominee, it won't be worth paying attention anymore.
The primary has also been disheartening. I see an ugly racial split in the Democrats which makes me so very sad.
I no longer believe in the Rainbow Coalition.
Neither does Jesse Jackson, apparently. He couldn't be bothered to endorse and vocally support Bernie, one of the three white officeholders who endorsed him for both his presidential runs.
I voted for Jesse Jackson twice, in '84 and '88. I'm disappointed he was a no-show in 2016. He should have been out there defending Bernie against charges that he is a racist, or a newbie to the cause of civil rights.
So much disdain by black people toward 'white progs' on Twitter has really been a wake-up call for me, for several months now. So much gleefulness that the white guy from the white state has been taught a lesson, and white progs given a good slap. When did white progressives become the enemy?
So much contempt for Occupy Wall Street and their outrage over millions of homes stolen by banks via mortgage fraud, dismissed as 'white people's problems.' Ditto for people upset about drowning in student loan debt -- just 'white people's problems.'
Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus completely mischaracterized Bernie's record of support for civil rights. It's fine to endorse a different candidate, but to call Bernie a 'new friend' when he has a 20+year history of 100% ratings from the NAACP is real deceit.
A few tweets from Bernie supporters providing links to his civil rights record are described as attacks, as if whites aren't allowed to converse with blacks on Twitter. All nasty comments about Hillary are attributed to Bernie fans, when a mere 30 seconds of reading the profile of the tweeter shows it's from a Trump supporter. People can write articles about the tweets they've received, completely mis-attributing the source, and get them published in the Washington Post.
The Hillary Democratic Party will make sure that the banksters steal homes from brown, black and white people equally. That's all they stand for, now. Identity politics wins.
I'm gloomy and depressed. We can only make progress if we can find a way to work together and fight for progress for everyone. I don't see it happening today.
Farewell to DU and the Democratic Party. Thank you to TM99 and other group hosts.
The struggle continues.
