I love him for that even if I am not head over heals about small towns myself (except to visit they are lovely). It's awesome that he is going to places that most pols think of as fly over country.

It is a suburb in the Des Moines Metro. The Des Moines Metro has over 600,000.

I used to live in the city of Minneapolis. So suburbs do indeed evoke that small town feeling for me. Lucky I am only a hop a skip and a jump to civilization.

cross town pace when he was young. Maybe the times, circumstances and growing up in NYC contributed to his preferences. I knew many people from medium and smaller towns who ended up in cities after college in the late 70s and 80s- NY, DC, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Europe. Others stayed in their college towns or smaller semi rural places.

Easterners went west and loved it, some from the west came east and became absorbed. One from Miami couldn't wait to get to NY; another raised in CT ventured to Atlanta and then France. Obviously there was a lot of mobility then, esp. for post college folks.

I've lived in a good many diverse places and my ideal is an older, pre 80s, even better pre 50s neighborhood within a city, or the not too remote country. Post 80s burbs are death valley for me, maybe just my problem. I had the ideal and blew it moving to suburbia seeking more space. Nature is very important now and am seriously working on liberation from zombie suburbia!

I am close enough to the city to make it work though. I like the country as well though if I had a car I would probably go on a lot of road trips to smaller towns and just hang out for the day and then star gaze at night.

But, the things that aren't there are public transportation, decent places to do research (with the hidden internet not as big a deal anymore), a half dozen movie theaters to choose from, oh and a dozen live theaters to choose from, street musicians, and a general feeling of being in a huge fair ground area, yeah I dunno how to put it better than that. But, what big cities are missing is fresh air, stars, mom and pop stores and diners, and that feeling like everyone is your neighbor.

theater, concerts, art venues, festivals, more people and culture- the vibrancy of so much activity. For a long while I was lucky to be able to do both, make small town trips and visits to the ocean while having primary residence in a large metro area. That will change, just sorting through the options now.

streets are lined with people. Most candidates hand out pamphlets to everyone. It is an all round fun time for all. Usually end in a rally at a nearby park and getting to meet the candidates.

It would be nice if candidates would include something for the kids - they take it home to mom and dad. I think a colored bracelet (like those rainbow ones for the LGBT movement) A bright color with "Bernie for 2016" would be great for the kids and can you imagine them wearing them all over - better than a bumper sticker.
