(31,935 posts)but almost half of my gay friends are for Hillary, and they can't articulate why they support her!

(10,856 posts)Only know who Hillary is.
They won't bother to learn anything about Bernie or his positions.
Plus, they think it's cool to want a first woman Prez.

(7,231 posts)Being gay myself, I have started to feel that the preference among gay men for the worst candidate is sometimes driven by a hint of "I don't care if someone has my back, because I can hold my own" - and then some spite toward those who belabor that the best candidate did have your back (because the underlying assumption is that you were "helpless" or "dependent" . Or they identify with Clinton, because she too has had to sacrifice her integrity to get ahead in life (remember when being openly gay was as good as a pink slip...in some states is still is...)
Relentless discrimination can do that to someone.
But please understand that these thoughts are still rather raw. I should probably think things through and then do an OP about it. I've been mulling that for too long anyway.
Any corrections / suggestions are welcome, in the meantime.

(6,891 posts)or use the web for information, it's unlikely more than a week or two has passed in the last 15 years without you seeing or hearing about Hillary Clinton. She's a celebrity, and her climb to the White House has been well prepared.

It's policies, NOT gender that (should) matter most...
Sure it would be great to have a woman President. Just not any woman.

(5,852 posts)two reasons I should be a Hillary supporter I guess, I find support for Hillary by gay (men) and African Americans to be somewhat superficial. If we are to attribute the young voter preference for Bernie to be due to him giving "hand outs", one can make broad assumptions about segments of Hillary supporters.
The gay men I've known throughout my life can be very superficial. They would rather watch RuPaul's drag race than a political discussion on economics. Again, this is a broad generalization. That being the case, they know Hillary claims to be progressive (today), has the gravitas to represent the country, and the wealth to dress like royalty. With these superficial considerations in place, there is no need or desire to examine her positions or concerns about her. As long as she doesn't attack our rights and represents our country by looking fabulous, then her ties to Wall Street, the MIC, or private prisons is of little concern.

(31,935 posts)are just very much into fashion, clubs, interior decorating, their favorite singers (heck, sounds so stereotypical)! They don't pay much attention to current events. My gay Bernie supporting friends are mostly artists, and very much attuned to what's happening in the world. I've found that the more a friend is into TV and pop culture, the more likely they are to support Hillary.

(16,327 posts)lesbian and straight and of all ages, are for Bernie. Interestingly, the staunchest Clinton supporters I know are gay and over 40. I (55 year old straight feminist) have even been chastised by them for not voting for her, which really makes me a bit irritated to be honest.
