Caitlin Clark Leads Iowa Rally For 71-69 Win Over UConn In Women's Final Four. South Carolina Awaits.

I watched this game last night. It was a back and forth battle in the 2nd half when the Iowa women got their groove back and held off a powerful U Conn team. The fight for the National title will be fierce. Caitlin Clark is amazing to watch. I wish her loads of luck as a Pro. The Iowa Hawkeyes edged the U Conn Huskies 71-69 to advance to the Final game.

For whoever said Women's Basketball was boring has rocks in their head and shit for brains.

Caitlin Clark led Iowa back to the national championship game, scoring 21 points as the Hawkeyes rallied past Paige Bueckers and UConn 71-69 in the women’s Final Four on Friday night.

Next up for the Hawkeyes (34-4) is a rematch with unbeaten South Carolina, which lost to Iowa in last year’s national semifinals. The Hawkeyes then fell short of winning the school’s first championship, falling to LSU in the title game last season. Now Clark is one win away from bring her home state its first women’s basketball title in the final game of her college career.

Couldn't make shots and kept turning the ball over. Her teammates kept it close until she could start hitting again. The rest of the team was excellent, especially Stuelke and Martin. Stuelke nearly doubled her career scoring high in a tournament game.

even the last player off the bench has contributed in some major way this year.
When Caitlin Clark passes the ball there is someone to catch it. Coach Bluder has really brought these talented kids together to be a truly great team.

2. Sloppy Game

30 turnovers. 16 by the winner. Also 27 fouls.
FG percentage was pretty darned good though, overall though Iowa's % of 3 pointers (28) was well below their typical. That is likely what made the game so close.
Oh, by the way, I would have made that moving screen call, too. She slid to the left, was moving her left leg @ impact, & she extended her left elbow in the path of the defender. That's 3 things one can't do on one play.

I really dislike the style of officiating during the Madness, particularly for the women. The games last night were typical. Think how few fouls were called in the second game, particularly in the first half. It certainly was not for lack of contact. The officials "let them play"! Three or four bodies are strewn across the floor -- just keep playing.

For me, one of the most frustrating aspects of the women's game is the excess of held ball situations. That encourages lots of slapping and grabbing at the ball and at the offensive player. While hands physically on the ball might be considered part of the ball, that should not extend up to the elbow or even the shoulder! It leads to "sloppy" play and leads to scrums. More rugby than basketball.

I have been accused of being a jinx for teams that I root for. My middle child went to Iowa Law School and is a big fan of Caitlan Clark. Sometime in the middle of second quarter, I decided that I was jinxing Iowa and changed channels. I texted my middle child and she was happy that I changed channels. I checked in after the game was over and my middle child's theory was confirmed.

I will not watch the game on Sunday.
