and people weren't into huge portions of everything. I remember when a 1/4 pound burger first came along and was considered big. Those soda bottles used to be 7oz. size. Same with most of the glass sizes. If you look on line you can find pictures of old beer glasses for tap beer that were called "shorty glasses". If you buy dinner plates etc. from that period many are about the size of our salad/bread plates. Now you go to restaurants where they bring you a sandwich/burger that is stacked with stuff 5 inches high and more and is served on a plank of chopping board. People buy fountain soda in 2 liter and larger cups. Bars serve drinks in bigger and bigger glasses all the time.

People were smaller and, for example, wristwatches from back then are smaller diameter generally than today so they kept a proportioned look as to the size of the wrist.

aren't made anymore. Can you imagine walking into a room during that period and finding Hepburn, Davis and Bacall all together? Throw in Rita Hayworth. Lana Turner and a few others of the time and I would faint dead away if they all turned at the same time to give me a look. Those ladies also knew how to wear a dress and earrings. Bacall was my favorite and her scenes where she appears in the shadows in "Key Largo" stopped me dead in my tracks because of that stunning beauty.

I have a set of glasses that belonged to my grandparents that are basically mini champagne glasses, which sounds like what you’re describing. I’m not sure what cocktail to serve in them, but they’re very pretty—I’m guessing over 80 years old.

But they were the style back then…..I laugh when drinking champagne now……our flutes are about 5 times larger than their wedding glasses.
