Psycho is a 1960 American psychological horror film directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and written by Joseph Stefano. It stars Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles, and Martin Balsam, and was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The film centers on an encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after stealing money from her employer, and the motel's owner-manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath.

We ranged from 4 years old to 11. I was 5.

In her defense, she was a single mom raising 4 kids. She worked every waking hour of her day, two and three jobs as a waitress. (Tips were everything!) Guess she had things to do that day, so she thought a matinee would be a nice diversion for us. There were no MPA ratings at the time. She probably never looked at the marquee. It was a matinee. A time for kids.

I was fortunate. We didn't have a shower in the house, only a bath.

5. Bates Motel is surprisingly good if you haven't seen it

I binge watched all five seasons, then watched Psycho I, II, and III. Good stuff! The series is not a true prequel per se and overlaps with the movie, but does the material justice. This isn't Shakespear or anything.

The original was enjoyable, but hasn't aged terribly well. I'd seen it before but it had been a long, long time.
