The Shape of Water

A true masterpiece by a master storyteller! Highly recommended. It's a noir fairy tale with some dark humor that touches on many issues: sexual harassment, racism, homophobia, disabilities, treatment of other creatures, power, and decency.

Basically thought it was Creature from the Black Lagoon.
She was not amused.

especially if people just compare it to other films.

The lead character does a few things here that are just phenomenal for a film and for female characters. The fact that she can't speak alone and carries the film through her expressions and occasionally some subtitles when conversing with others is great.

We both enjoyed it. He is 26, and I am 51. Most everyone else liked it too. I talk with some and could over hear others conversations. During the movie the audience responded a lot. So I think it is fair to say the movie was liked.

There were two scenes I didn't like. One I didn't think was needed and the other just didn't like. Trying not to give spoilers. I do encourage people to see it.

It is different, which is good. Too much of hollywood is just sequels and re-makes. I was a big fan of the creature from the black lagoon as a kid. I loved B monster flicks. But this is more then just a remake of an old B monster flick.

but I have reservations. Perhaps I would like it better f it was a monster flick. Don't see how it can live up to all the praise it's getting and the awards push.

the best picture at the Producers Guild Awards last night (unless they changed their minds like at last years Oscars) Should be the Oscar favorite. The director is already the favorite.

Saw it last night after reading a review that compared it to creature of the black lagoon and the amphibian character from hell boy. With beauty and the beast thrown in bah!

Movies ONLY redeeming quality is the cinematography and that is it.

Hopefully you find things you do like. I know those that have seen the Shape of Water have generally been very positive about it for a lot of reasons.

I don't know who compared it ot the Creature from the Black Lagoon but that's certainly not the direction to go with it. The Hellboy reference is an easy one since it's the same director and he really liked working with that design.

I can't wait to revisit it when it hits Blu-ray soon.

We did. I LOVED it! And I am VERY happy that it won the Oscar for Best Picture!

This is not a movie for comparisons. It stands on it's own merits. Beautifully.

It is definitely an artistic film in terms of the cinematography, as well as in the selected wardrobe and set colors - which was fascinating for me to catch on to and then follow and confirm that I was seeing what I was seeing for the rest of the movie.

It is classified as a fantasy (and somewhat science fiction) film that is graphic (sexually and violently) in parts, but has a very poignant story line.

You would need to have an open mind to appreciate what was done to provide the symbolism that the director locked onto. If you are a Michael Shannon fan, he is there in his full intense glory.
