2. When will the pro-nuclear group be created?

After all, nuke-boosters need, “an oasis of peace, happiness, and constructive energy,” where they are safe to discuss the latest good news about nuclear fission, without interruption!

I truly don’t wish to compare our hosts to Nazis, but http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005424

… In Nazi propaganda, Theresienstadt was cynically described as a "spa town" where elderly German Jews could "retire" in safety. …

4. Because I don’t think that creating such a group would be any more productive than creating this one

I tire of repetitious posts regarding the evils of the nuclear power industry (and I'm rather anti-nuke.) I also tire of the postings to the effect of, “Fukushima/Three Mile Island/Chernobyl really wasn’t all that bad.”

What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Either create 2 ghettos, or close this one down.

I have no intention of turning it into a ghetto (insofar as it is in my power to do so, which isn't much) and it'll only be a ghetto if the people who post here turn it into a ghetto.

needs a opposite group so that one side doesn't get shut out. What about a nuclear debate group? Where do they go?

8. We can debate nuclear policies in the normal E&E group .......
Fri Jun 1, 2012, 10:03 AM

It's just that some there were whining that they shouldn't be subjected to any pro nuclear ideas, and that anything pro nuclear was just lies and misinformation and was poisoning the atmosphere at E&E. Some there proposed banning any pro nuclear ideas and stated that there should be a "safe haven" for those enlightened folks who didn't want to hear anything that could be construed as pro nuclear. So here it is.

The debate still continues at E&E.

9. Why would anyone want a group that is "safe" for a given point of view?
Sun Jun 3, 2012, 01:58 PM

It just seems so antithetical to the whole concept of Free Speech in a democracy.

I thought the Framers wanted free speech so that different ideas could get thrashed out and discussed. Why would someone want a discussion group where everyone wallows in their own common set of beliefs? Boy that would be BORING.

It also doesn't do anything for education. I'm sure we could start a group for people who believed in a flat Earth, and nobody could talk about the Copernican model. Flat-Earthers would be free to wallow in their own misconceptions without challenge. It would get rather boring for the flat Earthers, and it does nothing to get them a modern education.

How does that line movie line go? "Now we see how democracy dies...it dies with a whimper."

Sigh.

10. Well, yes, and no…

Let’s say that you and I were trying to carry on a conversation (in the real world) about some controversial topic, but some extremist kept shouting at us with a bullhorn, because (fundamentally) he felt that even our conversation should not be allowed to take place. There can be no reasoning with him, he will not be swayed.

Wouldn’t you want to be able to withdraw to another room to continue our conversation in peace without his histrionics? In essence, his freedom of speech is overwhelming ours.

6. The whole concept of NUKE is and was always wrong....

THANKS TO THOSE WHO GOT THIS GROUP GOING...

Mr. Tikki and I grew up in the shadow of active nuclear reactors.

It was never for us and our family some far-a-way sci-fi fantastical gadget to solve all of mankind's
needs.

All around us were billboards talking about SAFETY.

I'll talk more about this subject..I am sure I will.

Clearly, looking at the recent message activity, you may have stopped the debate about nuclear energy.

Creating a 'safe' space for an issue that has nothing to do with minority status or group identity is a bizarre move. In any case, the no-nukes camp were driving home some excellent points and didn't need any special treatment, so your effort seems misplaced.
