Does anyone know how to get email notifications for when someone replies to your post? For example, on Facebook, you can get an email notification when someone replies on your timeline. Is there a similar one to this here? I usually am quick to respond, but I might not be on the computer because I am doing something or have commitments, such as work or other things.

If you look at the banner of options above the column you will see tabs marked with things to do. One of them says
"My Posts" it will be highlighted if some one has replied to one of your posts

But for example, let's say if I am not on my computer or logged on to this site, is there a way to get email notifications for when someone replies to my post? I do check my email quite often. If not, that's fine.

It's merficul that you have to go to DU in your browser to see anything.

The other sites are deliberately addictive. It's called intermittent reinforcement.
Apps, as opposed to browser access, really beg you to turn on notifications.
Notifications just push stuff at you and interrupt your train of thought, or work flow.

Admittedly, seeing replies to your own post is not like getting bombarded by other people's posts.
I do it, too, but in-between chores and going out to take photos.

4. I don't think I would say it is an addiction

Many sites allow you to specify which notifications you want. I obviously won't have it on if I am working, but I do put notifications involving lightning on, but that is only during the rainy season because I rely on the bus and all that. For example, I may get notifications from Facebook when someone replies to my timeline, but again, I have had it many times and it hasn't really disrupted me.

5. You could ask the admins.

Things that look easy to do can be a royal pain to do for many reasons (been there, done that)

Click on "Ask the Administrators" in the left sidebar.

Your point is valid. Regular checking can be worse than getting the odd reply sent to your phone.

I sometimes get a bit paranoid about computers, remembering the days when they didn't have so many perils.

6. That isn't an option for now.

The current incarnation of DU3 does not have that feature. I can't remember if it's in the works for DU4.

Especially since I will be working soon, I thought that email notifications were a feature here and I just didn't see it. I don't go on here on mobile phone because it would drain the battery. Furthermore, I don't drive. If I was ever in a situation where I could not get back home due to the bus or there wasn't anybody to bring me back home, I would take Uber or Lyft, thus I need to make sure I still have battery left when I call Lyft/Uber. Not every time when I go out will I have the opportunity to bring a charger/power bank, and usually I try not to bring too much when I go out. Even if I do get email notifications, I know that when I get the chance, I will try to respond.

8. Just about every other site I am a member of

has that feature (and I think all even had it turned on by default) but it was just too much and I turned them all off and only stuck with an internal site list of "Notifications" of replies to my posts.

Considering the size of this site, it might be resource intensive to do (at least for the admins to monitor a mail queue) when you consider the potential of sending out thousands of email notifications, although it most likely is do-able.

9. I see

At least on Facebook anyway, I only put it on for certain things, although I still get emails when someone comments on something I posted. I guess it really depends on the site. However, many times you only get notifications, for example on Instagram, if you allow the app to accept notifications and usually only when you are logged in, at least in my experience. However some, particularly weather apps, will run notifications in the background.

10. Well when I mention "notifications"

I am not even counting all my mobile app ones that happen on my phones/iPad. I have a number of not only weather apps but news site apps that send breaking news notifications. Those can be handled easier and are not too intrusive considering I rarely use my phones for anything. It's the emails that can be a PITA because I get enough spam crap (missed by spam filters) and "legit" but often excessive "retail" outlet emails in my mailbox as it is, so I try to reduce the sources and/or frequencies of email.

11. Notifications

I know that you can unsubscribe from getting news/deals from many retail stores. I get them a lot as well, but I just mostly delete them. I think it depends on how you set your spam filter and the type of email you use. Some do better than others. Then again, a lot of the emails I get are from Indeed.

however in some cases, it doesn't matter because many retailers use the same handful of companies that provide bulk email blasts. So once those companies have your email address, they can and do sell it to others. I use Comcast (the past 25 years) and no matter what provider, spam will get through. I have many filters but it's like the tail chasing the dog.

As it is, sadly one of the worse is the DNC where one gets bombarded with -

Well, it's not just with emails, anything now gets bombarded with ads, even online or on Youtube. One of the most common ads I see is "Is this person doing a good job as president" or "Should this sort of thing happen", blah blah blah. It got to the point I started using Adblock because I couldn't stand the ridiculous ads. When they are asking you to do this or do that consistently, you have to wonder how desperate they are.

15. Well a big reason I use Adblocker is malware

Some news sites have been notorious for having malware/spyware. Many sites get upset when you have Adblocker, but again, how can you be certain it won't have malware? Same thing with emails. I used to get spam emails a lot, so I always have to keep my guard up. But most email notifications I will know if it is worth keeping/reading or just flat deleting. Hence, it is not usually a big deal. So lets say if this site does end up doing email notifications, I will know which ones it is.

16. I normally keep my private email off discussion sites

and sign up with alternates anyway but with all the selling of databases of email addresses, it seems almost meaningless.

As for DU, if it were something you were looking for then agree that you would recognize those emails right away.

17. Indeed

You often hear a lot about data breaches and all that stuff. Needless to say, you have to make sure yours isn't one of them. But yeah, I often will know which emails are spam and which are not.
