DU Community Help
Related: About this forumThank you to each and every person posting welcome threads here!
It really means a lot to me. I'm still relatively new here. I read here for a couple of years before joining. And slowly waded in. Thanks so much for the friendliness. Sometimes we can neglect that every person who reads and posts here has a real life. And that a kind word at the right time can really brighten someone's day.
I wish I could post to every thread here and say thank you nice to meet you. But I hope that saying it here, some will read it and know that I really mean it. Thank you!

(8,492 posts)We're pretty sure there's some Shepherd, possibly some Lab and maybe some Chow. Every Lab I've known has been a ditz. Good Frisbee dogs, though. Something my old Pittie never got the hang of. He'd always catch it with his paws and then put it in his mouth.

(11,833 posts)Shortly after I joined someone suggested that I not post too much as a newbie. That was great advice. So I try an keep my post count - and blood pressure - low. LOL.

(8,571 posts)Welcome to DU albeit belated I know. I noticed your screen name, what kind of dog do you have? I have two Miniature Schnauzers Dante and Tsunami. They were both born in December of 2006 from different litters. I love them so much, they crack me up. I get so much enjoyment out of them, especially when my Cockatoo MoMo and them bark at each other. It's hillarious!

(11,833 posts)She died a few months after I joined here. I'll get another dog some day. Right now I'm enjoying the freedom of not having one. I get my animal kicks every Thursday, when I volunteer at a horse shelter. It's very enjoyable - they're fascinating creatures. I started volunteering there to get away from people one day a week. But it's also made me more patient toward people. The horses have taught me more about patience and acceptance. Funny how sometimes life can teach you stuff when you're not looking.

(8,571 posts)loss of your companion. It's never easy losing a pet, one that you've nurtured and cared for. That is so awesome that you volunteer at a horse shelter. Horses are beautiful, amazing creatures. Animals can be very therapeutic that's for sure. I started out volunteering at an Exotic Animal Sanctuary, I loved it so much that I took on a job there. We rescue animals that have been abused, neglected, from people who simply just didn't want them anymore or didn't realize what they were getting into when they acquired them. We have over 250 animals, lions, tigers, cougars, bears, wolves, primates, birds, barnyard animals, kangaroos, reptiles etc. All of these animals have been domesticated and can't be let free in the wild, they would never be able to defend themselves properly. I agree it is funny how sometimes life can teach you stuff when you are not looking. I've found that to be very true from working there. No matter what is going on in my personal life, I always find strength and peace with the animals. I'm also an RN, and that has really helped tremendously in helping the animals when they are sick or injured.
