(66,522 posts)I started loving Shakespeare after teachers stopped trying to get me to love Shakespeare. He really is something one has to discover on one's own...

Here's a link to last weekend's edition:

When I started it in 2006, it was a daily. I changed it to a weekly feature in 2010. It was a grind, trying to post an edition every day. And not for lack of material...

(8,571 posts)I love that sonnet
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments..."
Love is constant throughout time, and cannot be shaken no matter the obstacle. If someone is able to come in between two people, then it was not true love.

(66,522 posts)Keeping with the same-sex theme, did you know that William Shakespeare wrote his sonnets to another man?
SunsetDreams
(8,571 posts)That's very interesting. I always have found his writing fascinating, we used to try and dissect it in school.

(66,522 posts)(pronounced 'Risely'), a young English nobleman who may have been an early patron of Shakespeare's. It is believed that the Wriothsley family commissioned Will to write the sonnets as a way of encouraging the young man to quit chasing girls (and boys, too, evidently) and settle down and get married. There is some compelling evidence for this hypothesis, but no real proof. All that is known for sure is that the sonnets were written by a slightly older man (possible Shakespeare) to a handsome younger man (possible Henry Wriothsley), encouraging him to find a woman to marry.
I'm a Shakespeare nerd...
